Apara Mehta's farewell meal

Meri Daawat: Apara Mehta

Though Apara Mehta shot for her exit as Savita from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi on March 11, the actress made it a point to return to the Kyunki sets, a week later.

It was not nostalgia that drew her back at the shoot, but the need to say a big "thank you" to the entire unit, especially the technical crew.

And the best way was to treat the Kyunki team to a sumptuous meal.

'My small gesture'

Mehta had ordered a farewell lunch on March 17 at the daily's shoot at Kamat's Club, Goregaon. "It was my small gesture to all of them. We were together for six years — and that is a long time, with lots of memories. I ordered for the best Gujarati thali by the best caterer in town. It was by Popular Caterers — they had even done the food during my marriage. The best part of the menu was the aamras puri!"

Mehta insisted that the technical crew and other unit hands eat first. "They are the ones who make the stars, so they deserved their due. It was touching to see the light boys and make-up men tucking into the food. I told them they are the ones who make the stars look so good and beautiful on screen. I wanted it to be a big moment for them. They were really taken aback." The actress played the perfect host and saw to it that everyone was well-fed.

As for the acting front, Mehta, who is active on the Gujarati theatre circuit, says, "Savita was the beginning of my acting career so it cannot be the end. There's lots more for me."

She was also felicitated at the Star Parivaar awards, which will air this weekend on Star Plus. "They gave me diamond earrings and in my speech I have thanked everyone from Ekta Kapoor to Shobhana Desai to Aatish Kapadia."

So what's next on her front? "Wait and watch," she says.
