Are athletes really overpaid?

People complain so much when it comes to professional athletes' salaries. When my Prof mentioned the topic she expressed how she felt they are definitely overpaid, while people in other professions like herself are underpaid. When she told her husband athletes do not deserve millions he told her the day she can fill up all the seats of RJ (refering to the huge football stadium in front of our university) is the day she will deserve millions.

Some aspects to consider..
Just because people in other profession are underpaid, does it mean athletes should be treated the same way?
The risk factors of their job?
Don't we the audience pay them. Every time we buy that ticket, or watch them or purchase something with their faces on it are we not paying them?
Supply and demand issue?
For my paper I am supporting the athletes. Being surrounded by athletes all my life, I know the dedication and hardwork they put into such things. They deserve every penny they get for the joy they bring to my life.
Do share your opinion. 😃 (more specifically..umm I have a paper to write so I could definitely use some insightful information)

oh! Thank you for sharing that.😳
This is precisely my point. This reminded me of high school where school budget was divided between the science club and football team. I mean I have to admit. I was pretty jealous when some of my clubs lacked funds, unlike the football team. We had to do so many fundraisers and pay out of our pockets to compete in state competitions while the football players didn't need to worry about any of these. Then when I stepped back a little I realized I wasn't out there in the heat and rain every day of the week practising for my clubs. Maybe, just maybe they deserved that much. They deserved their share of funds for bringing that audience who were willing to pay 5-7 dollars (higher for state qualifiers and up) to watch them. I know no one ever paid 5-7 dollars to come watch me.😔
Not to mention these jobs depend on supply and demand. A school can have 100 teachers, if one teacher leaves, within a week or so they can a new teacher for that position. A sports team can't have 100 players, and if one of the star players leave, they can't find another talented player for a while.

We have to consider which athletes get paid ? It is only a few who have excelled , there are many others who could not achieve the success and they will not even earn equivalent to minimum wages requirement from their whole athletic career. I feel people who are excellent achievers to the same degree as that of these successful athletes will also earn similar amount if you sum up their life term earnings at the end.

Most athletes cannot extend their careers beyond a certain age. As for or Football(Soccer) and cricket players, most retire by 30; and only a few can still compete at the highest level till 35 and beyond.

Unless you're a chess player, it's difficult not to get injured in any contact sport! Considering the risks and the short careers, I think their high salary is justified to some extent. I would say some actors /performers in the entertainment industry are overpaid!
