I have many LSs that have welled my eyes with tears and have moved me to the extent that I cherish them forever but the one that I choose to mention here is what stands out for me!
Love Story by Erich Segal!
"Love means never having to say you're sorry"
This was the essence of this book and it taught us in the most simplistic way possible!...If I have accepted you for the way you are, then why are you sorry about anything? Love would prevail inspite of any issues or hurdles then why are you sorry? You and I together chose a path, they why are you sorry...Life gifted me with you, then why are you sorry?
Its a fast little read...This story is a hardly 100-120 pages and is a stereotypic rich boy-meets-por girl, falls in love, Zamaana Dushman and they fight all odds and get married!...The story might sound cliche' but this is a classic example of why you cannot judge a book by it's cover!..Its a simple story but it wasn't cliche' when it was narrated. The future copied this rich boy-meets-poor gal story line and made it cliche' but noone could ever do justice to this simple yet impactful story! Its a classic LS and would stick high in the wall of romance in the future times too!
Why you should grab this book?
1. Its a voice over of the male protaganist. Now, I sincerly feel that narrating the emotions and love from a guy's point of view is a deadly gamble and very challenging aspect because guys are known to withhold their emotions and are more or less not very obvious about it...Then how would the readers feel the emotions, flow with it, move with the story and live their LS? This is where the writer's brilliance popped in...he makes the readers feel each and every emotion in te guy's heart and yet kept the essence of being a "guy" alive! Read to see how this was brilliantly done!!
2. The protaganist! You meet the Male protaganist, Oilver Barrett, right from page 1...Well, you had to because it's his voice over!...You feel sorry for him, you feel like taming him...and then you meet this plain jane female protaganist, Jennifer Cavilleri, a gal whom no guy turns and gives a second look but then she opens her mouth and you don't wanna look away from her. You wanna pull her to your couch, make her watch movie with you and pass on comments because she is funny, bindaas and have a bold "I give a damn" attitude towards world!...She spoke her mind and didnt have the usual girly inhibitions...You instantly fall for this gal and you wish, you were like her!
Two people totally opposite to each other, from completely diff walks of life, one was from an aristrocatic rich family where emotions had no place and reputation was decorated on the podium and the other who only got self respect and love in inheritance....It was a mismatch between Harvard and Radcliffe, fork/spoon and hand, flowery lingos and wisecracks, sports and Mozart....While she calls him Preppy and dumb, he calls her smarta*s...A contrast between North Pole and South Pole, nothing in common....A love story that was not meant to happen, happened!
No-nonsense gal in the life of a man who had to watch every step and word of his...She taught him what it meant to live, how to cherish each moment and how to saviour each hurdle and obstracle in life...She made him loose his inhibitions...Their confession was so down-to-earth, no flowery confession, just simple words and spoken matter-of-factly but yet it would drill a hole inside your heart! You would run to say the three magical words to your love!
3. The love life - A simple tale of how life threw various tests at them and how they came out with flying colors....With each test, their love just grew deeper and deeper!! The life together wasnt bed of roses, they had their fair share of fights ....It was a life of banters and scrounges....BANTERS that come very light on you and you make yourself comfortable on their couch to witness each of them! The story isnt stretched and they dont speak unnecessary sentimental dialogues...Their gestures and wisecracks would make you bawl!! Their everyday issues would start seeming yours and yet you would see how love helped them sail thru them easily while most of us get embroiled in it everyday!
But when have the Love Stories been without their fair share of pain....Something rocked the beautiful life of Oliver and Jennifer and I wouldnt disclose it here because I want you all to read it.....Remember, "True love never has an ending"
You would fall in love with love...You would fall for the simplicity in love and be amazed at how love could be pure and yet simple!
A must read for every human being, not just girls! This would emotionally punch you so hard, you would never recover!
