The TV industry has grown over the years, but in the last one year it has become even bigger.

Not that we have not witnessed any such transition phases earlier, but the difference this time is that the change is very quick and strong. The change is, of course, bringing in new ideas and concepts, but unfortunately the life-span of shows has reduced.

Previously there would be two to three milestone shows in five years, but in today's scenario, there are five milestone shows in one year! What is even more surprising is that from these milestone shows, some would be forgotten the very next year!

No doubt, this change has also led to generating a lot of work as new ideas come in almost every week when shows are scrapped and launched, strategies are changed and re-changed overnight. More efforts have to be pumped in right from the producers to the team that executes to actors and in such a competitive environment, mediocrity suffers its due fate, which is good, but the stability factor has gone down.

One has to deliver not just in one go as there is no second chance, but also deliver much more for every penny that one is paid for. It has become survival of the fittest with so many new shows and new teams being launched and scrapped every Wednesday after the television rating points (TRPs) are out.

Every Wednesday one sees new actors, new shows and new teams which has led to a scenario wherein everyone right from the producer to the actors to the execution team has to deliver much more from what would have sufficed a few years back. Today the fate of TV shows are decided in seconds. Another trend that I have seen is that the shows now work in their totality and for their content or for the stars. With new talent making a good entry in the industry, both competition and options have increased.

Let's see where this change leads to. In the last one year we have seen a huge range of shows from the metro-based shows to simpler city shows to issue based-shows to village-based shows. With this kind of a changing pace and this much variety, it will be interesting to see what works with the audience in the days to come. One thing is sure that good content is going to rule and good writing is going to come to the forefront, which will lead to a lot of healthy competition in the future.

Standing today at this point, I am looking forward to see where this changing scenario will leads us. And I hope that the answer to this anticipation is just better entertainment. Some shows always stand out and they touch the heart of the audience because of the conviction of the makers. It will be exciting to see which show becomes truly a landmark show in the coming months...

Life span of shows has reduced because of the increasing competition. Also, writers lose track of the main story very fast nowadays which is why shows stop doing well.
During the times of Kyunki, there was hardly any competition and so the writers showed rubbish and people would watch because they didn't have anything else to turn to. But it's a completely different story now.
Good content is always going to rule. I don't buy that. There's a certain amount of luck involved too. If just good content would mean that the show will rule, then a show like Rishta.Com would be back for season 2 and would have been on top of the TRP/TAM ratings charts. And nobody would have written off YRF as a failed production house. It's a combination of proper publicity, luck, good content, good actors that makes a show work, not just good content.
But anyways after a long time, I quite liked an interview of RS. And I agree for the most part with what he said. Gotta thank him for giving us Bidaai in the first place even if I hate what he did to it.

Thanks for the article

I remeber earlier days when shows like malgudi days and Humlog or Fauji were on television or even Nukkad they were amazing and still are thought the millennium has not seen these shows

One has to deliver not just in one go as there is no second chance, but also deliver much more for every penny that one is paid for. It has become survival of the fittest with so many new shows and new teams being launched and scrapped every Wednesday after the television rating points (TRPs) are out.

Well said !!!👏

Wow somewhere these things will come crashing and it will happen go knows when !!

^Yeah! That's what I am saying na..YRF had amazing content, great star cast, but it didn't have luck and proper publicity on its side..that's why I disagree with RS's statement that good content will rule..because it's not necessarily the case..

I think it was the way the channel also took it and the crwd who watchedit
For me I wanted to see at prime time but it was shown EST time which was clashing for me so could'nt watch it !!

mahi way was really cool since it reminded me so much of JJKN

Those shws were perfect for Star but I think they done more for overseas viewers like here in US I think it wud have rocked with the desis' here

The style and trend was excellent I think one of them is coming back

SONY caters a lot for reality shows like now KBC CC and only one or two daily soaps run

I would love to watch it again it it starts !

Oh Sony was definitely one of the main reasons the shows didn't do well in terms of TRP's. Their promoting skills are really bad. Also, R.Com aired at 11 PM in India on a Wednesday. That's what I mean by luck, promotion makes a big difference. It's not just enough to have good content and a good star cast.
Yes the shows were more urban and made mostly for metropolitan audiences in India and the US so I guess that's where they falter. But I really admire that they tried to make something different from usual stuff on TV. The quality was exceptional also, especially with R.Com..Mahi Way I felt sometimes ended up giving a bad message..like the Mrs.India competition when Mahi's sis went into labor. The girl who won the competition was anorexic..😕
MW is coming back for sure. It's confirmed. I'm happy the show is coming back! I always knew that MW would come back for sure because it got the TRP's. But it's R.Com that I personally thought was the better show.
Star or Zee would have been better channels for the YRF shows but I don't think SP and Zee would air such urban shows..If you notice, SP and Zee are for the most part full of the normal saas-bahu shows. While Sony I think generally tries to do something different from saas-bahu. But Sony fails in their publicity department while SP, Zee, Colors are much better at that.
