In every dispute between parent and child, both cannot be right, but they may be, and usually are, both wrong. It is this situation which gives family life its peculiar hysterical charm ~ Isaac Rosenfeld
Aman joins his parents and says he is ready to go to his engagement. Dayal Mathur is not pleased with Aman's outfit ~ a lavendar shirt with grey pants. "Is this how you get dressed? It's your own engagement, you are not going just to mingle at someone else's engagement. If you get dressed like you are going to the marketplace everyday what is the meaning of such rasams?" IG this is your home, not a police station. "We are educated and wise, you have to know how to be appropriately dressed for an occasion". IG, wait till you meet SS in his dhoti? What will you see say when you see his dress code? Aman is shocked. "What's wrong with these clothes? I care about the engagement not the clothes". IG gives his orders "There is no need to argue with me. Do as I say, go get ready and get back. Be quick, I'm not coming as far as your room to drop you off". "Aman agrees "Sure Papa" and heads to change his clothes. Aman babu, after all that attitude you showed Krishna on the streets two days ago, you let your Papa talk to you like you're a five year old kid? What gives? Miffed that Krishna is fearless and can stand up for himself. Is that what irks you about Baba so much? You can do nothing more than comply with your Papa's orders at home like an obedient child? Tsk, tsk, tsk. Are you going to let him dictate your daily life plans after you marry Arushi too? Arushi is going to love that. NOT!đđź I guess you haven't see her fishwife personality before while you drugged yourself with chai every time you saw her. Mrs. Mathur and Nandhini are preparing to leave for the engagement.
Defer no time, delays have dangerous ends ~ William Shakespeare
You may delay but time will not ~ Benjamin Franklin
Mathur inquires about Gaurav's whereabouts "he has to know we've to go to Aman's engagement". Nandhini replies "he was a little late coming home from the showroom, he's getting ready and should be here soon". IG gets sarcastic "Wah! What kind of kids has God given me". Well your boys could be asking the same question "what kind of father have they've been given. None of them seem pleased or happy with you for a father. The first born is condescending, the second obedient and the brat indifferent. Jai shakes his head in disapproval. A vexed IG turns to Mrs. Mathur "Are you listening? At least teach your son to be on time during happy occasions. It's his brother's engagement but that doesn't make any difference to him". Papa Mathur are you a graduate of a military academy or did you have controlling parents as wellđ˛? You spare no one in the family, with your fixation for time, not even your wife who has the monumental task of playing arbitrator between her children and you. Thanks for raising a dysfunctional family where respect is demanded not earned.đ
Don't hold your parents up to contempt. After all, you are their son, and it is just possible that you may take after them ~ Evelyn Waugh
Gaurav saunters in "It matters to me. IG glares at him. "Mom, I don't want to live by the clock. Not like those people for whom their time, their rules, their principles and their law has more value than their family". Mummy Mathur chides Gaurav "is this any way to talk?" An angry Papa Mathur cuts in "you have already lost your manners when you speak to me". Every father is proud of his son but I am ashamed to call you my son". Psssssst IG, if you ask your grownup sons they will say the same thing. Don't lose their respect so callously with such statements. Aman walks in shocked at the interaction between Gaurav and Papa Mathur. "I am not too happy calling you my father either". See, told ya, don't look so shocked and bothered by it Papa Mathur. Why are you bullying your adult sons? You are not come out the winner. They are as set in their ways by now as you are. Mama Mathur intercedes "Gaurav what kind of talk is this?" "Bro at least for today please be quiet" pleads a stressed Aman. He seems uncomfortable in his own home compared to the man who sat on his high horse a few days ago when he confronted Krishna on the streets of Allahabad. "Make your son learn to live without his limits, bec' I don't like people who don't value time whatever their excuse". What is Papa's Mathur's obsession with time? Was time a factor in Gaurav's past that included Papa Mathur too? Gaurav grinds his teeth his temper flaring.
The investigation continues, we are attempting to build a case ~Ty Rogers
Mathur family arrives at the hall where Shamu and Nainaji greet them. Gaurav is happy left to himself while the ladies talk. Aman makes a beeline for Adarsh and starts talking to Komal of all people. Aman, now you can actually have a civil conversation with an unpud girl?đ˛đ Papa Sax introduces Papa Mathur to a few of his influential colleagues from the University on this special occasion. The Dean credits Mathur for his good reputation in bringing changes to the city he oversees. The Vice-Chancellor praises him "Now that you are here the shareef people of this city will also have a right to live a good life". Shamu is pleased for he is on the list of shareef people. IG accepts the compliments with pride "I just try to do my job with devotion and honesty". Does anyone else hear a warning in that statementđ˛đ? How honest will he be when his teen brat is hauled in for his hit and run? His rigid principles are about to be tested very soon if Adarsh and Komal have anything to say about it. Hum bhi dekhthein hain.đ

A band announces the arrival of who elseâŚâŚâŚ.Takur Sajjan Singh and his whole family. Shamu why do you look so confused? You know who wants to be seen and heard as he makes his grand entrance? You met this band on two other occasions up close in front of your house courtesy of the Takurs. SS enters with a great deal of pomp and show. Shamu and Nainaji are shocked, the Mathurs for their part alarmed, irritiated and chagrined. SS bypasses Shamu and heads straight to give the IG a hug. HUH? Takurji, anyone let alone this IG would be alarmed and suspicious at the way you are sucking up to him. When IG inquiries about the identity of SS, Shamu promptly introduces him as his samandhi, Pratigya's sasural. SS after rambling for a while much to the embarrassment of many present there introduces each member of his family to the IG. I bet KN will be in his sights soon and maybe Krishna too by virtue of association by blood! Uh-oh! Why didn't SS introduce Ganti Dadi? We would have loved to see IG Mathur's response to her ringing the bell. SS praises Aman to Mathur. Prats explains to her Dadi she doesn't understand SS's chatty behavior today either. SS makes a spectacle of himself while IG watches him with curious eagle eyes.
The successful revolutionary is a statesman, the unsuccessful one a criminal ~ Erich Fromm
Mathurs are talking to a guest when an inspector arrives with documents requiring IG's signatures. The inspector spots SS mingling with the guests and informs his Boss that the biggest criminal in town, Takur Sajjan Singh was present there. Mathur is furious but Mummy Mathur halts him when he makes a move to throw SS out of there "you know I can't tolerate criminals". Mummy Mathur pleads with him to wait till the engagement is over.
Preview: Shamu is asking IG's forgiveness for whatever tamasha may have happened there. IG tells Shamu "there is no need for you to ask for forgiveness. I have a condition regarding the marriage and that is Sajjan Singh's family won't come to the wedding." Shamu and Nainaji are back to their natural state of worrying, Komal bites her teeth in anger and Adarsh is not pleased either. Looks like IG is going to be brought down a few notches right off the bat at the wedding. Kya Hoga in parivaaron ke beech mein? What is going to happen between these families? Will Adarsh blow the whistle on Jai Bro as the perpetrator of the hit and run right away? Or will he wait like Prats to tom-tom his suspicions with an audience present. Is Jai soon going to be counting bars behind locked doors with his Papa's blessings? Will the IG throw the rule book out the door and protect his bratty teenager?
BLOOPER ALERT: At the same engagement hall a lady tells Dadi "isn't this the same hall where your older granddaughter's engagement fell apart?" Dadi is miffied "what kind of talk is this, do you talk about such things on an auspicious occasion"? POPs âŚthe engagement did happen though Krishna caused a hungama. It was later when Angad beat Nitin to a pulp that his family called off the engagement.
QUESTION OF THE DAY: We have now seen all three families interacting with each other. Which of these families is the most dysfunctional of them all?
