I never thought datta was forced to love nakku. But I was thinking what made datta to fall in love with nakku- it was bugging me so many day (from day he tied MS in his hand) until read the post of crystal( datta deserve fair nakku) her post made me realize that
Datta in delusion that all beautiful girls heart is cruel. it can be changed easily.{The one burnt by hot milk drinks even cold buttermilk with precaution} this is state of datta. all he need to understand that He fall for the outer beauty and forget to see the inner beauty of those 2 woman in his past life. For the first time he see the inner beauty of nakku and fall in love with her.

It is an extremely intriguing question and as promised, I have free time to ponder and Vaish, I owe you a reply on this fab post! So here it is! My RAMBLING begins... PLEASE READ ONLY IF YOU HAVE TIME TO SIT AND MAKE SENSE!

This is one thought that sums up why Dutta loves Nakusha, according to me! In fact, this answer would run very close to my response to Paru's (GP's ' I like your name better than this General Practitioner acronym ) post recently. But there we were discussing why he has changed so much in love ' here, we are wondering how much or rather since when does he love Naku, if he does love her at all!? I shall answer in the following parts
Is Dutta forced to love Nakusha? My response: NO
Does Dutta love Nakusha? YES
Since when does Dutta love Nakusha? He would not be able to tell and so I am also stuck up for an answer... err... maybe since ever!
How much does Dutta love Nakusha? He will know the real intensity of his love, when it is put to test soon ' love that is pure can endure anything and Dutta's love for Nakusha is pure, no matter what.
Okay, so this makes my thoughts slightly organized so that I ramble less! Although it is impossible to not ramble!
Is Dutta forced to love Nakusha ' I say no. Lets go back to Mr. Croft's lovely words here - "I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you. Yes, this is his recent loud-and-clear realization ' he loves her because she is that woman who has walked into his life and "made his living fine". A man, who has gone through a lot of distress in his life right since tender age is bound to be hardened ' a self-imposed condition ' to such an extent that differentiating between emotions and understanding the intentions of people in a practical manner is almost impossible. For such people, emotions become mere conditions of the mind that they learn to control for themselves. They are myopic, intolerant and greatly opinionated. More so, if they are "gangsters" Dutta, an obedient son of a hard-working poor mother, who raised her children with great difficulty, was always a self-made ' hardworking, honest and sensitive ' very, very sensitive ' this sensitivity perhaps comes from a story we do not know yet. What makes him so hypersensitive that one failed love could turn him into a gangster!? He was a hard working man, with a lot of dreams in him. And then he "fell in love" with a simple, sweet girl next-door, who loved bangles, candy floss and simple pleasures in life. She seemed to be the perfect woman who could make his life worth living. But, one fine day he found out that her love was just plain deceit. But, that one deception, altered his course of life and changed the person he was ' almost instantly!
His prejudice took over his senses and he refused to believe in love, hardened himself and buried his own desire to be loved. He committed crimes that would leave deep, deep scars on him ' Scars so that he would always remember the betrayal and also remind himself how unworthy he was of being loved. Over a period, this notion and his low self-esteem turned into a shell so hard to break that no one dared even try it. He had a family that loved him to bits ' his sisters and mother. Yet, in their entire exchange of love and affection, there remained a great deal of expectation out of him, the responsibility of giving them as much as he could, whatever he could ' of himself and whatever he could bring or had. In return for that love, he had to "do" something for them. Often, he ended up expending more of himself than the love he received ' but he continued to do so because he loves them all selflessly!
A good ten years after he had hardened himself, he meets this girl in distress and unwittingly becomes her saviour ' He was not there to save Nakusha. More would have been beaten up anyway, even if he was alone! But Nakusha happened to be there and More misbehaving with a woman asking Dutta to save him only instigated him to bash up More quicker! . That same night, he got shot and this unknown girl refused to leave his side and became a part of his life since that day ' albeit, in the role of an attendant and caretaker. But she performed her role with utmost sincerity. For she not only ensured he had his meals in time, but also ensured that she was there to listen to every hurt, every thought, every reflection of his ' no matter how ugly the truth, how dark the secret or how scary the deed. She never judged him ' patiently heard him out and allowed him to release his own emotions. In this exchange of thoughts, Dutta felt a connection with this girl ' which became stronger with each passing day ' strong enough for him to open up his murkiest secrets and innermost fears to her. He would have never done that had there been no connection! So, perhaps, in a way, a part of them was always in union with one another.
Then came the Supriya fiasco and as you have rightly pointed out ' He was "obligated" to feel in love with Supriya as she was going to be his wife. Yet, it was a feeling that he was made to comprehend by this caretaker girl and not Supriya. The reason for his bliss even back then was Nakusha and not Supriya! Yes, the credit by default went to his fiance, but it was only through his conversations with Nakusha that he experienced the feeling of "being in love" again. So, when you say that he would have perhaps not realized his love for Nakusha had Supriya not run away is true! Because, Nakusha on purpose was pushing all the credit into Supriya's bag all the time. At that point, as a man engaged to Supriya and being a 'one-woman-man', he obviously never perceived Nakusha's care as her love for him. But, he was ALWAYS aware that she was the reason for the change in his life ' the happiness in his life. He had ACKNOWLEDGED that fact even back then, just as forcefully as now ' the only difference was, that back then, he was saying it without realizing that it was actually HER love that changed him and not SUPRIYAs! Whatever was being "shown" to him as Supriya's love was actually Nakusha's love for him. Even back then, their connect was so strong that his eyes often searched for Nakusha and not Supriya ' but it was a feeling he never explored for at that moment, for him, it wouldn't even cross his mind! So yes, had Supriya not run away, he would have perhaps never realized that he did love Nakusha. (But, this was not meant to happen so the story did not head that way Love story toh in dono ki hi honi thin a ) This is perhaps because his transformation was not complete! Yes, she was able to let him shed some inhibitions about life and see it afresh, but he was not "touched" by love still.
Now, coming to another aspect of why this happy realization never occurred before! LOVE as we all must know ' being hopelessly romantic women that we all are is a very 'phunny' and complex feeling. It has many manifestations, many aspects, many stages. Love at first sight can be mere infatuation ' most often is, except in really, really amazing love stories. For love to actually be able to endure hardships, it has to pass through tests and emerge stronger. In Dutta's case, given his story, love at first sight was out of question. So naturally, his feeling of love had to come gradually. What was the point when he realized he actually indeed loved Nakusha? Of course, after she had publicly CONFESSED her love to him at gun point ' but when?
Nakusha's love for Dutta was as selfless as his own love for his family ' sisters and mother. No matter how much it hurt him deep, he continued to do things so that they could be happy. Nakusha has loved him in the same manner ' in a way, her love for him, is a reflection of his own love for people he loves. But, along the way, he perhaps forgot how to express it as well as Nakusha did. [Now, I am going to paste some bits from my post on Paru's thread here, only because i am lazy to type out the same thoughts.] She cherished him to a point that his hurt seems bigger to her than her own, even when he was the one doing her a lot of "wrong". She quietly, with her love, sensitivity, patience and faith undid a lot of locked emotions inside him, without even pushing him to unlock his heart ' and at every instance showing him who he really was! He began to question the purpose of being vengeful, because she was so selfless! She treasured him so much that she refused to leave him even in the face of death. But, his realization of what he felt for her came just before they actually fell off from the cliff ' the moment he asked her to leave him! Nakusha was one woman who never asked him to give her anything in return for her love ' not even his love in return, forget something in kind! For all this while, Dutta took his relationship with Nakusha - be it that of a caretaker, confidant, a friend, a wife, a lover (he always knew she loved him and would do anything for him -that is why he had asked Baji to place the knife in her dupatta in that temple scene - he knew she would run after him if he walks withe goons, which no one else from his family would do or he could have asked Baji to give it to his sisters too, isn't it?) for granted. This is because of this inherent security that "she will always be there". But the moment he asked her to go and she accepted his decision, he did feel the pain ' instantly. Though he had uttered the words and his sense of self would never make him stop her, he questioned that feeling of losing something immediately in his room. And her coming in to return the mangalsutra only added to that sting ' the feeling of losing a part of himself. But at that point, it was not love that he had identified. At that point, he had only felt that "connection" ' the pure bond they shared. She was so much a part of him that he had to feel the pain of letting her go.
It was at that moment (driving, in the car) that he began introspecting their relationship right from the start! The two days in the jungle and the chance encounter with Jagtap, showed him the mirror on how warped his whole prejudice to love is, when his true love is walking with him at every step. If you remember, his realization of "love" happened, the second time he feared losing her ' which is when they found the road back to civilian settlement. He was not happy at all because he knew that he would have to keep his word and hand her over to her mother ' a feeling he was not sure of by now ' because now she belonged as much to him as to her mother and perhaps more to him. He had closed his eyes, on Jagtap's advice and felt that other half of him in her, opening up those emotion that he had stacked away deep within him for the fear of being seen as vulnerable, almost suppressing that part of him which yearned for true love (not physical, but emotional) too! Her being taken away by Anna was when his fear of losing her turned almost real! It was this "realization" of love that had helped him fight the demons Kala had filled in his mind. And, this realization of being loved, gave him the strength to see himself in a new light ' and allow all those lost emotions to re-surface.
I don't feel he started loving her because he saw her love for him or because she "proved" she loved him. No, it would mean nothing if it didn't touch him deep within. The fact that he could apologize to her in front of the world goes to show how deeply her love had transformed him! For Dutta, the realization of love had to be gradual ' he never gave himself the chance to see love, nor was he waiting for it. It was something that came by and swept him without any sound, but gradually. He did not "fall" in love with Nakusha. He "grew" in love with her ' slowly ' growing also as a person. Fall can be instant, but growth is always gradual. She allowed him to grow at his pace and even nurtured him most tenderly, mending all those broken pieces within him ' until he reached the point where he was passionate enough to admit this love for her, to the world and most importantly to himself!
Remember, technically, he still has no proof of her innocence in the Supriya fiasco, but his heart now knows that she is innocent and that no other woman can love him as fervently as she does! He loves Nakusha not only for what she has made of herself for him, but for what she is making of him. He loves Nakusha for that part of him, which she brings out with such ease as if it were a part of her own!
So love is settled alright. Now, what we need to watch is how much "faith" he has in her! She has immense faith in him ' but his will be put to test very soon and it is only at the end of it, that we will be able to tell how robust is Dutta Sriram Patil's love for this woman who would love him even in the last breath she breathes, with all that she is and can ever be!

The following is my observation.Dutta has always been intruiged by Nakku. From day 1. Dutta has subconsciously felt Nakku as someone special. From the pump scene, car eyelock, Dutta holding on to her leg when he gets shot and many other incidents. For Dutta's character to let someone break his protective shield and let Nakku come close to him in itself explains his inner desire to be near Nakku. Him talking to her about his past, his thoughts about how the girl that he marries should understand him. He subconsciously let Nakku get very close to him - though as a friend. Not only his whole family but even Supriya was kept at a distance. Nakku's opinions always mattered to Dutta. I think everytime the thought of Nakku going away from his life has disturbed Dutta without him realizing what those feelings were. On the day of the wedding, her returning the MS, her going to the city, the end of the journey in the jungle. On the day of the wedding when she confesses her love, Dutta was moved and even stopped Leela and Roops from ridiculing her love. I think it was subconsious love for Nakku but Dutta had not realized it. If it had not been love he would not have stopped others from punishing Nakku. He made it very clear that no one will interfere in his business. I think he needed Jagtap to make him come to the realization. At Jagtap's when Dutta steps out the house looking for Nakku and does not see her Jagtap's words reflect back to Dutta - that you realize the importance of a person only when they are gone. I think that was the beginning of Dutta's realization for his love.
In my mind I am convinced that for Dutta subconciously it was always love but it took a journey for him to come to the realization of what the depthness of his feelings are for her.
