One example from india was taken :
This one
The text is written in french..If you want some specific translation - Just ask...I'll do it 😊
Your thoughts......?
One comment was saying : "the exemple of Vaseline in Asia (India) isn't a good one - cause people over there think being pale as a criteria of beauty "us" (european) it's the contrary - being tanned is beauty. So I Don't perceive it as a racist ad..."

fairness ads actually focus more on clear skin and making a fair person as fair as he or she can be, it's not about making a black person into a white person.

Yes you're right..but it reflects that the idea of "white" is a high quality compared to other skin color.

Been over this "fairness cream" spiel way too many times. Do a search for "fairness cream" online and you get all South Asian products. Its a case of tan/brown complexion people preferring to have fair/wheatish complexion. I would not call that racism. But why does it occur is a socio-cultural phenomenon that befuddles me.

When I search for milk body on the internet --- I often find out whitening milk body......
is it to erase the the consequences of disastrous spots?
or many natural flaws of some skin (untoned --- orange skin effect and so on...)
Ok perhaps the whole whitening/tanning ads don't mean to be openly racist, but the L'Oreal one which whitens Beyonce wayy too much clearly shows that a non white celeb is accepted/prefered if he/she looks like more to an european/american (wasp) target/market.

Yep if you have a good figure and good features etc then colour does not matter. Grooming and dressing too makes a difference.

I guess Ads tend to recycle old cliches - sometimes it's colonial ones - other times they just reflect the actual FEAR --- of not being integrated to a specific society (economically / socially / culturally).

I was a little disappointed to see Shahid Kapoor advertising a fairness product. :( I'm not a shahrukh fan but was disappointed he was doing the same.

Gosh these products contain so many harmful chemicals! Most of the time all they have in there is bleach to make you 'fairer'. :@

I have to correct a little bit ---
When I was a teenage my mom bought me a cream which was supposed to make disappear the awful marks left by spots and the product had whitening elements in it and it burnt my skin whenever it penetrated....
In some beauty milk you have whitening elements to make disapear unaesthetic traces on your body...but usually the main aim isn't to help you to be "fairer" only to correct some flaws on your skin....and yes Shahid & SRK did disappoint me on this...but I guess the money call is sometimes strongest than anything else...

It is very much ingrained at least in our current Indian psych to associate fairness with being beautiful. More fairer the girl or boy is more likely to elicit an expression like ''how beautiful.. ".

Is there any dearth of hindi songs without "gori., gore ..." ?

Is it not believed that drinking milk reqularly during pregnancy will result in a baby with fair skin ?
