https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_ship
A generation ship is a hypothetical type of interstellar ark starship that travels across great distances between stars at a speed much slower than that of light. Since such a ship might take from decades to tens or hundreds of thousands of years to reach nearby stars, the original occupants of a generation ship grow old and die, leaving their descendants to continue traveling, depending on the life span of its inhabitants and relativistic effects of time dilation.
So you know it is a one way trip for you, you will never ever meet your family/friends again. Will you volunteer for such a journey?

Nope. I feel so lonely in the U.S. at times because all my family and friends are back in India. I can't see myself on some ship with no chance of ever seeing my loved ones again.

But dying doesn't necessarily mean getting into the ship. you won't experience the same things the passengers will experience if you just "die". It's like saying "nothing is really achieved by pursuing anything because death is inevitable. "

i can't talk intelligently about any of those experiences (experience on that ship and/or experience of death).

I can't get into bed with catherine zeta jones or deepika padukone. That doesn't mean they're the same 😆 .

But if you feel that that was a cheap shot word play from me, let me put it this way, that similarity that you brought up , ie "I can't talk intelligently about either of those experiences." that doesn't imply that there's no real difference. Death is a predictably "concise" experience.

you bed one, you can imagine the rest.

you die once, ________.

i didn't club those two experiences as one. i was just saying that, metaphorically, death is also a journey into the unknown. death is also a journey that makes you leave family and friends behind. in that respect, it is similar to the journey this ship is offering.
