'Roooo' jaa 'Jaaaa' neman! why, Shantanu, why?

This is a discussion forum and everyone of us has a right to express our honest feelings, isn't it?

Before you all start giving me brickbats, lemme tell you that this is not meant to bash anyone. Every singer or "a singer" has and should have a unique voice. When I heard shantanu Banerjee singing "roja jaanman" at the mega audition episode, I expected a lot from him for two reasons.

1. he looked young and dynamic with some bubbly nature.
2. he was about to sing a track that was so close to my heart, and that too composed by maestro ARR.

But when he began and progressed, I literally felt bad and started feeling angry over his performance. Was he singing or "over singing?" I mean, he literally murdered the whole composition and kept on adding more nails to his own coffin. No care for tempo and taal at all. Were you sleeping?

It became bad, and worse, and much worse. And torcherous. I said on my mind, enough!

Why Shantanu, why did you murder this masterpiece? Did you really practice or again, like the lat time, you woke up from the bed and came? And why blame Sanjay Vidharyati for you singing just a few lines and stopping in the middle? You could have added more improvisations to it.

This was a big opportunity. Just awful execution of your voice. An opportunity gone lost. Totally immature display of talent there.

My parents were watching tv that day and I was outside checking stock prices. 😆 Then I heard something, what at first I thought to be some animal in terrible pain. It took me a while, but I realised that it was someone singing roja janeman , I love that song, not because it's made by arr or anything, but because it's a beautiful piece of art. The person singing it was quivering like sonu nigam did in rafi "resurrected" (more like mohammed mangled 😆) The singing had no sophistication whatsoever. Truly rotten singing.

Shantanu did disappoint me.. I don't remember that well, but no.. his singing was just too weak. :(

Oh okay I didn't know his name was Shantanu. 😆 But the way you all are describing him, now I know who he is.

And yes I agree with Sid, he totally murdered the song. 👎🏼 He didn't start off well but I thought he would at least improve but he kept singing badly throughout. It was painful to hear.

Here's what I think happened:
Hemachandra from SRGMP 2005 sang this song on Music Ka Maha Muqabala. He did extremely well, got a standing ovation by Shreya Ghoshal. Himesh was on the competing team, he admitted defeat even though the show was not over.

This fella must have seen this performance and was like hmmmm I can do that. It's probably like how everyone sings Mitwa or Maiya Maiya now because other people did well in the past.
