Fans Outraged as Bairi Piya is Canceled
Fans of the popular daily soap Bairi Piya on Colors are irate after hearing news of its cancellation. Within 48 hours of the news, over 7000 fans have already signed an online petition (http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/frndsofbp/) vowing to boycott both the channel and production house, Balaji Telefilms, if their favourite serial is canceled.
The controversial and innovative show was launched by Ekta Kapoor on September 1, 2009. It focused on the plight of farmers and the subjugation of women within this context by wealthy landlords, thakurs, in the interiors of Maharashtra. Fans particularly loved the show's 'bairi piya', the devious Thakur Digvijay Bhadoria, played by Sharad KelKar, whose illicit love for a farmer's daughter, Amoli, forced him to leave no stone unturned in his ruthless pursuit of her.
Fans are outraged as the story was finally entering a positive phase where viewers were going to see the depths of Amoli's love for the reformed Thakur. They are especially baffled as TRP were consistent, and there was no prior warning by either the channel or production house that the show was under the scanner.
For the past six months, the show was indeed consistently outperforming a number of other shows on the channel such as Bhagyavidhaata, Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam, Agnipareeksha Jeevan ki Ganga, and Aise Karo Naa Vida. No wonder the fans are wondering what went wrong and why their favourite show was so abruptly canceled. We at Telly Tadka sympathize and wish these fans best of luck in getting answers from the channel and production house.
