Only If...You Want to
He held on to the dupatta, not letting go. She tugged a bit more at the dupatta to be free and he pulled her close using her dupatta as a link between them.
She said, "Let me go, Maan!" with a catch in her voice. He pulled her close, her back almost touching his chest and asked in a whisper, "Only if...you answer me!"
"What do you want to know, What do you want to know now! Why don't you leave me alone!" she whimpered almost at the end of her tether. Her mind was screaming her to run but legs were not supporting.
He came closer and muttered, "Why do you look away, Geet, why do you walk away when I ask you personal questions? I know you feel something, I can see, but why don't you tell me Geet!" he frowned as he knew he needed to solve this puzzle he saw. He knew it but there was something troubling her. He wanted to get to the bottom of that.
She said, "Nothing, I don't feel anything Maan, you are my boss and I work here nothing more."
"You are lying!" he accused. "Why do you cower away from this?" he turned to him, lifting in her chin the same way he had done a few minutes back. She kept on looking to the ground stubbornly.
"Look at me Geet, why do you get affected when I am near you. Why? How long are you going to run away from me, this, what we have?" he asked in a husky murmur, letting her know that she affected him as well, that every time they were in the same room, he could not take his eyes off her. But she turned her back to him. Every time she was close to him, all he wanted to do was take her in his arms, he thought and letting the feeling take me over, he put his arms around her waist from behind her and pulled her close. Tilting her head on his shoulder, he rubbed his stubble from her neck to her cheek, then kissing her cheek, then ear.
He whispered, "See what you do to me! See what happens to you! Now tell me you want to deny this between us!"
Geet closed her eyes and whimpered, a cry of surrender. She felt herself go weak. She put her hands on his to remove them, but instead felt a jolt run from his hands to hers that reached her deep within.
"Oh!" she muttered. "Let me go, Maan!" but her voice lacked conviction. Her body betrayed her. She knew she needed to be strong but her heart was giving in. she turned then in his arms and put her hands around his neck, letting her head lie in the crook of his neck and shoulders and she held him close to her.
"Geet!" he breathed her name, "Give in to me, say it Geet!" as he held her close, letting her hear the rhythm of his heart that seemed in sync with hers.
She came to her senses and sprang out of his arms with a jerk.
"I can't!" she screamed "I can't!" as she ran from him, putting her hand on her stomach.
He let his outstretched arm stay that way for a minute and told himself.
"You can, Geet, you can, Only if'you want to..!" he murmured behind her with determination even stronger than before to make her say it.
