Indians all over the world and in India criticize the country and it's government for 364 days. But 15th August is one day on which, somewhere deep within us, all of us unite and celebrate this day.
One can't help but swell with pride after listening to tales of our glorious victory over the british empire. The national anthem becomes so much more piognant and Vande Mataram so much more meaningful.
IFians, let's join our hands in saluting the tiranga! Here's to each and every Indian - JAI HIND! India makes me proud and I'm proud to be an Indian.

SAARE JAHAN SE ACCHA, HINDUSTAN HUMARA!

On the 15th of August, 1947, India was declared an independent state, after being ruled for about 350 years, first by the British East India Company, and subsequently, by the British Empire. At first, they shared friendly cultural and trade ties with the Mughals, who were in charge back them, but the gullible Mughals did not realize that the friendliness was all a show, and they had other plans. Before they knew it, the British took over the land. Soon, a friendly beginning become a struggle for survival and freedom. Thousands and thousands of freedom fighters fought together, age, heritage, class no bar, to achieve one goal: independence. The first breakthrough came through the Revolt of 1857, and soon we began to see a shift in the attitude of Indians. Finally, at midnight, 15th August 1947, India gained independence from Britain when Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the Indian Flag at the Red Fort(Lal Qaila) in New Delhi.
Here's the video of his speech:

    Subhas Chandra Bose
    Dadabhai Naoroji

These freedom fighters and many others sacrificied themselves selflessly, so that the future generation aka us can live without any restraints or under slaving conditions. On this day, we pay respects to these freedom fighters.
