isn't it wonderful that a mere serial is strring us to such an extent that we are examining our actions. the actions of our society ..the norms of the world ...

what you said , all those atrocities exists ..I will not deny it ..but surely things are changing..for instance Sati is banned, More and more woman are not taking things lying down...Things are looking up yet conversly things are going downhill too..

the atrocities on women have become more subtle, more insidious and the disturbing thing is it is not happening in the so called third world, This phenomenon is spreading over a lot of European countries ..case in point ..Rihanna getting strangled by her BF ...or charlie sheen beating his wife black and blue...Sandra bullock being cheated , a Brit Mp confessing to his use of influence in trying to get his PA in bed with him ...

This is not a matter of culture ...this is a matter of ethics..ethics have changed, have become lax ...

Tanth,

I think the matter of ethics is more widely exposed due to media reports 24/7. The bar is always being raised or lowered as the case may be. When people are not held accountable for their actions, no boundaries and no consequences given then the natural tendancy is to take it to the next level to see how much more they can get away with the next time around. It's all a game. The political world is a classic example. As long as people get cynical and chalk it up to "that's what happens in politics" they have the unattended permission to do as they please.

Okay. Thank you.
It is true that in one way, "Pratigya" is showing us these things. I can say that the guy who plays Sajjan Singh (known by me as "the bearded devil, Shaitan Singh") is actually trying to show the men who abuse women, and all bullies in general, how ugly they look mistreating those smaller, weaker or less advantaged than themselves.
I have heard about Sati (thank God it is banned along with other old patriarchal customs) and recently one Punjabi girl told me that in many parts of India, the situation of women is changing and their rights are getting respected. (previously, women were forced to do all the household chores, even if she is working outside. Now, the responsibilities are divided equally between men and women), many women are getting educations and so many other things (all of these I am fully aware of). From what I understand, in India, 1% of domestic violence incidents go unreported, whereas here in Canada, half go unreported.
I have read about people like Rihanna, Sandra Bullock etc And I am aware that this has nothing to do with the culture and more to do with the ethics. Another thing which I had read is that much of this world is still very patriarchal and of the belief that the people who are abused do things to "deserve" the abuse and the abusers are "excercising their authority". ie: Women who are hit by their husbands do things to deserve getting hit like not have his supper ready or the way he wants it, or not having his clothes ready for him, and the abusers are just boys being boys.
Lastly, it is good to see more womwn actually fighting back against their abusers rather than laying down and crying like babies. (Another thing that just ticks me off is when a woman is being abused and sher just takes it and then bullies the people who are trying to save her life. I know this from personal experience. I had a couple of Indian women do that to me.)

well yeah most of the men are like that
this mentality exists in many of them that they are somehow superior and hence have a right to abuse their women but it cant be restricted to a certain region, men with such thoughts (monsters) exist all over the world, yes this is true that some regions of the world outnumber the rest.
