Depends on your workplace and what their rules are. In USA some corporations have very stringent rules on sexual harassment to prevent any forms of liability. That by no means implies that harassment does not happen - sometimes it gets swept under. But sometimes people do lose their jobs over careless behavior.

According to the US laws the owner of the business is directly responsible for any kind of sexual harassment going on in his premises even if he is not aware of it.........unless it can be proved somehow that the victim failed to report the harassment although she had all the avenues open to her........and also if the owner finds about sexual harassment taking place at work he has to take action whether the victim wants it or not.....

"Sexual harassment, is intimidation, bullying or coercion of a sexual nature, or the unwelcome or inappropriate promise of rewards in exchange for sexual favors"

I personally feel sexual harassment is a condition of mind coz not each and everyone harasses a person ...be it verbally or physically ...the most common news in India now-a-days is of teachers harassing students for sexual favors which ultimately lead to d death or some other sort of damage to the student...I mean it's not merely confined to d work place whr ur abused and asked sexual favors..lewd comments are passed and more so...but it's from the grass root level...It all depends on the sensitivity and tolerance level of the victim..if it's a school goin kid then it affects them much than it does to a grown up mature person.....and it's not only confined to women who are being harassed but men too....and if we look many a times men not only harass women but some other men too...and that's the limit.

For some it's pride that see wht we'r able to do...but then what about the one suffering ?? And I don't think there is much difference betwn sexual harassment and rape...coz one leads to another consensual sex is something entirely different but then yeah at times it can be a form of it taking into account date rape for most instances.....

Well talking about laws in India there are laws not to say they are not...the thng is how much amount of justice do people residing in India receive and that too on an immediate basis ?? Act 375 for non consensual sex and Section 354 of IPC for attempt to rape and many more....but are these laws of any use at the time...unlike in USA where strict action is taken immediately....and if yes action is taken how much of it's valid ?? coz most of the actions taken are not stringent...

One in 10 sexually harassed

'Not harassment, but exploitation'

* 'Where senior people have tried to have sex with employees because they work for them and not because they wanted a true relationship it's not simply harassment, it's exploitation,'said John Wright, a senior vice-president at market research company Ipsos.

* The workers who were least likely to have felt sexually harassed in the workplace were from Sweden and France were only three per cent of employees reported such incidents.

* Only four per cent of workers in Britain and Australia reported sexual harrassment, five per cent in Poland, Germany nad Belgium, and six percent in Spain, Japan, Canada and Argentina. Seven per cent of Hungarian workers reported sexual harrassment.

* Mr Wright said the survey found workers aged under 35 were most likely to report feeling sexually harrassed.

* The poll also found that seven per cent of employees have been intentionally physically assaulted out of anger by a co-worker or manager during their work day.

* India again topped the table with 25 per cent of Indian workers saying they had been assaulted at work. Sweden was once again at the bottom with only one per cent reporting such an incident.

* 'A workplace culture that either condones or leaves unchecked any employee being slapped, punched, kicked or shoved by a co-worker or manager out of anger creates an atmosphere of productivity out of fear and intimidation - simply another form of exploitation,' said Mr Wright. -- REUTERS

SYDNEY - SEXUAL harrassment is at dangerous levels in the workplace with a joint Reuters/Ipsos global poll finding one in 10 workers have been pestered for sex by a senior employer.

The survey of about 12,000 people in 24 countries found workers in India were the mostly likely to report sexual harassment with a report rate of 26 per cent.

They were followed by workers in China with 18 per cent reporting sexual harrassment, Saudi Arabia 16 percent, Mexico 13 per cent and South Africa 10 per cent.

In Italy, nine per cent of workers reported being sexually harrassed at work, while in Brazil, Russia, South Korea and the United States a total of 8 per cent of workers reported being pushed for sex by a senior.

The survey comes as experts warn that sexual harrassment seems to be on the rise in the workplace with several high profile cases recently.

Hewlett-Packard CEO Mark Hurd resigned last week amid an investigation into claims of sexual harrassment and Mark McInnes, former CEO of upmarket Australian retailer David Jones, quit in June after admitting 'unbecoming behaviour' to a female staff member. -- REUTERS
