Why aren't there any girl composers?

So I got a tweet from Viraf Patel aka Shiv from Mahi Way.
What he said was making me think.. Here's what he said "why don't we seem 2 know of great music composer who is a woman ..is it biology ?"

So what's your intake?

I love usha khanna, the only female composer in bollywood. She was really good, here are two amazing songs by her, sung by my favourite singer ;)

No, not even one, sadly. Women can be very creative, so its a shame, actually.

There is a female lyricist anivtta dutt, but she usually writes desi-wannabe-gora crap. Apart from khuda jaane she hasnt written anything nice. She wrote that awful ten on ten song from pyaar impossible and she seems to be one of those "artsy kurta" type of people. All flash and no substance.

Didn't she write the lyrics in IHLS? There were a couple songs that I liked... lyrics wise

oh dunno abt that movie much, sorry.

Anyway, all these male composers, well, most of them anyway, are pukka chors, be it ar rahman/ illayaraja who churao from folk songs, or pritam and his korean imported goods or anu malik and his chor giri. rajesh roshan is a chor who copies songs like "when johnny comes marching down the hill" and makes crap most of the time. The bengali composers like bappi, burman and pritam and shantanu moitra all copy too. They make me wonder if like all us bengalis go to fish markets, these fellows go to song markets, bargaining for songs. Bhappi will probably ask the shopkeeper to reduce the price of some foreign song.

high time for some good composers and original ones to come up be them male or female .. i am sure there must be people out there who are female yet great at composing but whether they are given a chance is a doubt....dunno how you call it but yea even in reality tv usually not everytime we do have female winners usually the finalist ration are males over female maybe in other fields the same thing is going on...I am sure if we have some female composer we will have a period of some fresh songs
