Run to You…
Daadima has taken ill. She continues to be in bed while controlling Maan and Geet. She does not want Geet to leave and will do everything to keep her around. Dev and NT have gone to Pune so yeah, we have the field open for romance without having to look behind and caught unawares by Dev or NT spoiling the fun…(this is from us Maaneet fans POV)
Maan and Geet had started nursing Daadima back to recovery. Geet has been his pillar of strength. She ensured, Daadima got food, rest, medication on time and Maan had watched this from the sidelines and saw how wrong he had been to accuse Geet of being scheming little tramp who was after his money.
He felt contrite of having jumped to conclusion on seeing one small smile that had felt like a dagger piercing through his heart. His concern had been taken and trampled underfoot by a chit of a girl whom he had been more than protective about. He had developed feelings for her against his wanting to. He had broken a promise to himself. He had always reminded himself of women like Sameera who were heartless wenches to keep every woman at bay. To protect himself from heartache, from feeling, from this emotionally charged moments that he spent with Geet. Geet had broken through his armour. She with her innocence, her helplessness, her wide brown beseeching eyes had lured him into them and turned his world upside down.
He had lashed out in anger and pain. Pain of past, of someone elses deeds reflected in that nano second of a moment when he felt that Geet had duped him like Sameera. But these last few hours had shown him how different she was, how caring and selfless she was. She did not have to take care of his Daadi. She had stayed back on her request. She had come to him when he had called out to her in his need to take care of Daadi. This after he had ranted at her. She was so different from women that he had met. Daadi was right. He must apologise.
Determined, he went to kitchen where Geet was making a soup for Daadima. He tentatively entered the kitchen, furtively looking to see if she was in a receptive mood.
He softly said, Geet! She from her demeanor was still annoyed with him. She had not spoken a word to him directly. Understandably so, he thought as he moved towards the counter. She said, yes Sir! Oh so it was going to be like this he thought, hearing the cold clinical voice of Geet.
I am s.., he ventured but Geet cut him off and said, Leave it Sir! I know I am not going to stay here. I shall leave as soon as Daadi is better and I can tell her that I don't want to stay here. I have had enough of people telling me what to do. Of running my life. You are no better than the family I left behind. All men want to control. They don't want to hear anything. Just say their piece and expect us women to follow. NO more. I shall lead my life the way I deem fit. And you don't need to worry. I don't want your precious money, or this job, or your room. You can have them all. I will leave you, as soon as Daadi is well in peace, just like you want. You have told me already what you want. You don't have to repeat. Her voice had risen as she had spoken these words.
Maan had been trying to get a word in edgewise but had failed. She was angry, rightly so , but dammit, he wanted to say something to. This woman always did the damndest thing at the damndest time. She cannot shut up when she should. His temper was rising with every word she was speaking and he went up to her, grabbed her and put a hand on ther mouth and said, Bas! Bandh karo! Mein kab se koshish kar raha hoon ki tumse kuch kahoon. Tumse kahoon ki I am sorry, I did not mean what I had said. I was not myself. I was hurt at being duped by you. Damn it Geet, I have fallen for you. I am trying to fight it. I know I should stay away from you but I cant. I don't like it but I cant. Geet's eyes had rounded in shock and surprise at what he had just told.
Maan likes her? But before she could react, maan pulled her into his arms, hugging her tight. I have been so wrong Geet. I have been so harsh with you. I donno what I can do to make it up to you.
Holding her tighter as he spoke. Geet was stunned. She did not know what to say or do. She was feeling things that were alien to her. She wanted to hug Maan, to make everything alright for him and her. To let this feeling flow over her.
But Maan being Maan, suddenly, pushed her away and went off. Geet followed him, But Maan had gone to his car, she went behind him and sat in car next to him as he started the car. He said, Leave me alone, Geet! She said, No, we need to talk. He said, there is nothing to talk. Just leave me alone. She said No, I will not. He then screeched his car out of the porched and speeded his way to find some solace inside him. They were driving, when a Dargah caught his eyes and he felt the best place to find peace within was here. He needed to ask his forgiveness to God and also ask for Daadi's speedy recovery. Turning to it, he parked the car and silently went into the building, leaving Geet to her own device. Geet followed him. But Maan seemed to have moved into the Dargah and was buying chaddar. She went and stood next to him, but he ignored her. She tried to talk to him but he moved away towards the shrine. He gave the priest, the chaddar and circled around the shrine, with Geet silently following him. Just then someone spoke behind him as he stood in front of the shrine praying for penance that, Yahan, mannat mangne se saari manokamana poori hoti hai. Wahan chalo dhaaga bhandhte hain.
Hearing this, maan looks towards the trellise where many people like him had tied a thread of hope that will be fulfilled by the Almighty. He got a thread from the priest and went up to it to tie his thread of hope. He closed his eyes and prayed for peace and health for daadima, For his family, for Geet. He opened his eyes to find, the person of his thoughts looking at him with pleading eyes. Her eyes full of questions, seeking answers to what he had told earlier, his half spoken admission. His feelings.
Geet slowly put her hand out to him, but he turned and walked away. Not able to comprehend what was happening. She stood stock still. Unmoving. Maan had gone away leaving her with an outstretched arm, seeking him, his support silently with tears running down her eyes. She then heard someone speak behind her.
Pyar mein deri nahi karni chahiye, beta, jao manna lo usse, jaane mat dena. Kahin der na ho jaaye. She was rooted. She flashback to all the times she had been saved, helped, encouraged by Maan. He had been her pillar of strength, her saviour. He had been the one, she thought of in any situation wondering if what would he say, think, do and she did just that. He had made her face the family, made her give Brij to the police. He had been the reason all along who had given her a new meaning to life. Even when everyone had stared at her in torn saree..it was he would had come to her rescue.
How could she have been so blind. How could she not seen what he meant to her. Why she felt bad when was disapproving and why she felt elated when he praised. She suddenly realized that she cared for Maan, what he thought of her, does this mean, she loves him? Does this longing mean that? She then saw the light come on her through the trellise and realized, God was giving his blessing.
She started walking towards the path that Maan had taken, to go to him to tell him that she felt the same, that she loved him, with each thougth, her steps picking up speed, frantic eyes searching for him in the crowd, she darted her eyes everywhere. She turned around, back and then again ahead, looking for Maan, the tears in her eyes, unstoppable, shimmering and cascading down her cheeks. She brushed these tears, of joy, of elation and began running to look for Maan…
