What Attracts Fans to SaJan/MoNaya?
SaJan or MoNaya are the two names that have been given to the television couple: Sanaya Irani and Mohit Sehgal. This television couple became an instant hit after a few episodes of their Star One show: Miley Jab Hum Tum. Sanaya Irani essays the character of Gunjan whilst Mohit Sehgal plays Samrat.
Initially their characters were as different as chalk and cheese. Gunjan was introduced as this very shy and nave, bespectacled girl from a small town in India, whilst Samrat was the most popular kid of college. Since he was the basketball champion of his college, and possessed good looks, he never lacked the female attention. In simple words, he was an extrovert, she was an introvert. Whilst he was considered dashing hero, she resorted to being a wall flower.
However as they say opposites attract and that is exactly what happened. These two fell for each other and so did the audience. Soon after the first few episodes, people started making fan clubs on this pair. Fans started calling them SaJan and MoNaya by combining their real and reel life names together. Many even want this fictional couple to become a real life couple.
The current story line is very different from the start of the show. Both of them are dealing with the loss of their loved ones, and the death of Gunjan's sister Nupur (Rati Pandey) has caused Samrat and Gunjan to separate. Nonetheless this has not decreased their fan following. Fans still want to see this couple back together, and many are still hoping for a reunion of SaJan. This begs the question as to what attracts fans to this couple? There are many television couples but what makes this one so special? I believe the answer is the same factor that attracts their fictional characters to each other.
Fans love the simplicity and naivety of Gunjan, and girls adore Samrat for his good looks and extrovert attitude. People love to see Samrat, the flamboyant Casanova of MJHT, fawn attention on the introvert and hesitant Gunjan. It's not like Gunjan does not display her love, oh no she does, and fans love her for that. Whilst Samrat is very expressive in his love, Gunjan is very quiet in her approach. She takes care of Samrat just like any real life partner would by fussing over him to make sure he's doing well in his academic, athletic and personal life. Gunjan made sure Samrat resolved issues with his estranged sister, while Samrat left no stone unturned to make Gunjan walk after her accident. Both have gone through quite a few trials and tribulations in their relationship. And the current track is one such hurdle that both will soon overcome…or at least that is the hope of the SaJan/MoNaya fans.
Gunjan and Samrat are two very different personalities but both of them love each other immensely, even though they are not together currently. For them it's a perfect case of opposites attract, and that is exactly what attracts the fans to this couple called SaJan aka MoNaya.
