It is said that a man is known by the company he keeps . How true do you think it is ? Why?

I stay alone most of the time. That shows that I am terribly terribly unsocial. 😆

I'm one highly unsocial teenager and so, I spend most of my time alone. However, I have a group of friends at school and we kind of make the most popular group of girls and all... and my company in there has a variety! 😆 Some girls are spoiled, some are nerdy while the rest are boys and every teenage guy is similar in one way or the other. So, basically, I personally am not affected by the various companies I have. People are vulnerable to it but. I assume. 🤔

I think the saying is quite true. Even though every person is unique and has their own personality, we as humans tend to judge them based on their company. We generalize based on race, religion, nationality etc. Similarly we generalize based on the general vibe of a group of friends - if your friends are plastics, so then you must be one, if your friends are dorks, so you must be one.

So people should be judicious about company they keep. But at the same time we must be careful to let people shine for who they are and not their friends.

To a large extent friends do influence people. Especially amidst teens and young adults where clique mentality is highly prevalent. People tend to emulate the group they want to fit in with, often not giving second thought to what that entails. As people grow older they get a better idea of who they are and stop trying to change themselves to be part of the clique.

People should try to be conscious of who they are as early as possible to prevent themselves from being lost in a clique or being judged as a clique. Groups also should discourage stereotypical clique behavior and interact freely without clique expectations.

I am the unsocialising, calm and shy types ..

I am different with my group of friends though, I am more lively and "naughty" there.. but I really don't open up that much with anyone except my best friend who's just like me.. :D
And yes, I guess we are known by the company we have.. I once had a "friend" who was overly friendly with me, was quite pushy and very nice to me, so I started to be nice to her as she didn't have any friends(she was new to school).. but then she turned out to be one of those "slut" kinda girl and everyone started to think I was like her too! :O :'(
So yeahh.. the company we have, does make a difference 😆
Our companions make an impact in every other aspect of life - the way we talk, behave, carry ourselves etc. are affected to an extent by the company we keep. And they do play a role in making you, you, for what you are/were.. :)

Simple. With me influencing them in the background, they will know the difference between ignorance and truth, black and white, dark and light, good and bad, right and wrong.
