Grey Characters (Sid-Ridz) !!

I have attempted DMG in the begining, some how could not get hooked to it. I admit I am watching DMG only last 6-7 months. This analysis is only based on this.

What I see from that is, Ridhima is a grey character (I love this kind of characters as they are more realistic). She has lot of nice qualities, but yes she is little self centric in certain things. I observe that she sees everything only from her perspective and many a times thiks less about others. The main exception that I saw till now is, she does feel guilty towards Arman (and this is hightly expected behaviour). In the scene after Lonavala incident, she makes it clear that she feels guilty for having moved away from him and she is ready to take any punishment for that from God. Apart from this incident, i see her care more about herself than others. We can find lot of examples, 1) During the confusion (Sid or Arman) phase, she was only into her miseries, but did not respond even minimally to Sid's worry of his relation with her being a burden on her. 2) She also did try to oversee, Arman's pain while he was trying to unite her with Sid. But atleast in the end she acknowledges having done that to Arman. 3) In the recent times, repeated attempts by Sid while expressing his love is enjoyed by her privately. But the madam does not find it necessary to atleast give him a small clue on her enjoyment. The only time she tried backfired (alas). 4) She did not take anytime to blame her father being step one (during the Rape fiasco), but did not express her sorry in a loud way. Like this we can list lot of incidents which reflect her (little) self centered nature. This is not a very bad nature, but exists in quite some of us to different levels.

Coming to Sid, he is also a very much grey character. To start with an imature person, but the circumstances have matured him at an amazing speed. Quite an angry person. Takes things into his stride for a long time and suddently breaks down and then takes lot of time to come of it. His patience in dealing with Ridhima till the Poison incident, his break down at that point and the ruthless behaviour just marriage is one example. Dealing with ridhima's indecisive/non indicative behaviour with regards to Arman patiently till Lonavala incident, breakdown at that point and then again ruthless behariour. But the nice thing in this grey part of his behaviour is he is quite contrast to ridhima. He is conscious to the fact that he is hurting the people around him. He is quite conscious about it. A positive trait is that he can observe things. He can judge things to a good extent. He is very much humane, is affected by other person's (even if it is a person like Arman who is like an opponent to him) pain. He tries to reduce others pain even if it can be an inconvience to him.

When you bring these kind of characters together in an interesting situation, one can form a very good story. This what CVs have probably tried. Or it happened without their knoweldge.

But after their union (which I think has already happened to a good extent), I strongly feel that these two will try to reduce enoromity of the grey levels in each other's behaviour to a good extent as and when they face new situations together. I expect this more so from Sid, because of his character description that I gave above. I really am expecting some interesting story line based on this in the future. Poco's recent OS is an interesting example of this.

PS : Please note that my post might look like I am supporting Sid, a Man. Our society, a male dominated society, people like more if things are controled by a Man. But I am very much a feminist and just dont like that perspective at all. Nevertheless, I am slightly more biased towards Sid, because of his character. Even if Sid were a women, I would have been more biased towards her.

PPS : All interesting discussions are welcome, but please no forever things.

PPPS : I have not written anything about the other characters of DMG, because I stil have not got good grip of them. Before Arman's entry the story was more clean and hence I could analyze better. After his entry, CVs were no more concentrating on story, more on their best strategic move to keep majority happy. Hence the story was lost for some time. Now I suppose they have taken a decision and hence hope would develop a good story again. Once that happens, I will try to analyze the other characters also.

Dont expect many replies dear. There are loads of ARians who just HATE SR posts. Anyway....I agree with you. Human nature has positive and negative sides. You can be too good, but you can be too bad as well. You can be selfless, but you can be selfish as well. Grey shades plus bright shades is what makes a human. Like me, being modest, I admit I am intelligent ( got 92% in 8th class :D ) BUT the problems are I am TOO short-tempered, think I am ALWAYS right, and etc etc. So, you can be nice but that doesnt make you immune to all the shortcomings as well.

I love love love love this post. After a long time I have a read such a good post in dmg forum. I totally agree! This is a reason I really like Rid and Sid. They are not our typical soap extraordinary characters. They are simply very flawed human beings.

For Riddhima she is definitely self centered. I love how you caught her recent actions. She likes Sid's attention, likes his touches and all but she has kept it to herself. She enjoys the attention Sid showers her with.

One thing most of us noted from beginning was these two are similar. They are a little selfish. They think about themselves a lot. The amazing quality that separates Sid from Rid is the fact he is observant. He notices how people around him feel. I hope CVS keep that. Because these days they seem to be on a mission to destroy our grey Sid. 😆

Wow! Loved your analysis. Yep, Sid-Ridz are grey characters and maybe thats the reason I adore them more.

Somehow the idea of perfect or selfless person, dreamboy (girl) does not go well wid me. Everyone is self-fish to some extent.

Yes, that is what I like about the stories with grey characters. They are more realistic. I can only watch/read the stories that are at least realistic to some extent.

Dear Fatima (I hope I am right with your name)

You are one of the authors whose post I like very much. I am not very active and hence dont reply much, because I am have busy schedules and am afraid of getting more and more pulled into it. But I really like lot of your views and interpretations.

These characters really hold me to this serial. Ridhima intrigates me more because she is very different from me. I wonder why, even till today, she not even once expressed her apologies to Sid regarding her insenstive behaviour (post marriage). Saying so, I perfectly understand the circumstances in which she behaved like that. But post those circumstances at least ...
I probably can understand Sid more, as many of my characteristic match quite well with him (especially the grey traits).

I got hooked to Sid and hence DMG, the day he owned up his mistake in front of everyone. The strength in him, the humanness in him to stand for a women (who meant nothing for him at that point of time) in her battle just based on humanatarian grounds is commendable.
Many of us dream of a beutiful society with lesser and lesser crimes, lesser hierarchies (like poor rich, woman man, higher caste lower caste etc) where people are more human to each other. This kind of fictional characters give me a hope of our dreams being fulfilled.

Yes, I agree with your lost sentence, they are deviating from the our grey sid's character recently and hope that stops.
