No, skavitha08, you are bang on target.
If you think from an average human being's perspective, colour or looks do not matter when a relationship is a platonic friendship.
Again, from an average person's perspective, colour and looks become less important when we get to know a person better.
But as sociologists and even evolutionary biologists explain, facial symmetry and concept of beauty are culture specific and so deeply ingrained in all of us, that the first thing every human, right from infancy, notices in another person or object is beauty.
We know Nakusha, and how she looks in real (screen) life. But what if she were really the way she looks?
The story has built the character so well, that we sympathise and appreciate her goodness. What if we knew nothing about Nakusha? What would we go by? Her looks!!
Remember Paresh Raval's interview, he said that domestic help called Mangala, or someone was appreciated by all, for her skills, but no one wanted her to be around.
Like it or not, appearances matter a great deal to every human. Attraction is based on appearance, most of the times. Untill you get to know that person really well, looks do matter. Everyone has his or her own concept of what is attractive and beautiful.
Look at the women Dutta was attracted to, they are fair and good looking. Which is normal. The men among us love Mahi and the women among us love Mishal, because they are goodlooking.
Face it. Dutta is not attracted to Nakku in the romantic sense. He may be drawn to her because he may be feeling comfortable with her, like many of us have with friends of the opposite sex.
The only way a not-so-goodlooking person can attract another is by some unique trait in their personality. And this personality will come out, only if the other person gets to know that person better.
And we are being unfair by demanding that Dutta appreciate Nakku, and return the love she has for him. It does not work that way.
We are also demanding that Dutta be shown her real face at the earliest. That shows we also agree that her looks will blow him away and forget her "betrayal".
Our thinking is not too different from Dutta's or any other character in the serial.
Bottom Line: Agree or not, looks matter. We tend to see beyond someone's appearance only when we get to know them better.
One last remark: There was a documentary on Discovery or National Geographic some years ago, I saw bits of it.
Five-year-old children were shown pictures of good looking and not good looking persons and were asked to identify those that they liked most.
All children liked the good looking ones, and they felt they liked the good looking ones because they thought these people might be nice people, kind people.
So, the point I am trying to make is: When you say looks do not matter, you are taking a idealist's stand. They do matter.

i agree, i do think the storyline is not all that convincing in that sense, a supposedly 'ugly' girl gets her love based on her personality alone. most men go off looks first and foremost and then personality second ... sad as it is.
