Hi everyone!

Thank you to all the readers and any silent readers out there for reading my fic thus far. 😊

I have limited internet access so I can only post something up once a week.

Here's the next chapter Part 1 of the Diwali Party!

Chapter 15: The Green Eye of Jealousy

Heer sat in her chair waiting patiently for class to begin. She was so relieved that the week was finally over and all her assignments were all done and finished. Tonight was the big Diwali party at the Junejas house and she was looking forward to it. Sanjana and Kunal walked into the auditorium with smiles as they sat down next to her.

"So, ready for tonight ladies?" Kunal said. "Decided what you will be wearing?"

"Why are you so concern about that?" Sanjana asked giggling. "You've decided what you will be wearing?"

"Of course...and I can tell you that I'm going to be looking exceptional good this evening...need to make sure you are well aware of it," he smiled proudly. "Pick it out myself."

"Oh, so are you warning us that we might faint over how dashing you will be looking?" Heer teased.

He filed his hand through his hair, "All I'm saying is you may need something cold to drink afterwards." Both Sanjana and Heer rolled their eyes at his cheesy comment.

"I really can't wait for tonight." Heer excitedly squealed. "I'm over with everything..."

"Well, at least until finals," Sanjana replied with a dishearten voice.

"We still have to wait for our grades to come in," Kunal said. "It's going be another 2 to 3 weeks before we find out what our project grades are."

"Yea, but at least it's over now," Heer replied in a hopeful voice.

Sanjana turned her head and brighten immediately as she saw Prem enter from the right side of the room heading towards them. She was expecting him to walk down the aisle and sit next to Kunal but to her surprise he made a turn into the aisle before them and walked all the way down to the other side before hopping over a chair landing in the seat next to Heer. She felt a pang in her heart as he heartily greeted Heer first before anyone else.

"Oh, before I forget," Heer said as she pulled a blue shirt from out of her backpack. "Here's your shirt."

Prem took it smiling, "You could have given this to me tonight."

"I know but it's been two weeks and I keep forgetting to give it back to you. I remembered this morning so I thought I better give it back before I forget again," she explained.

He unfolded and examined the shirt, "Thanks for getting the coffee stain out. It looks brand new."

Sanjana continued to look and listen to their exchange barely able to handle her emotions of jealous. She was seething at the fact that even after she had accidently spilt coffee on Prem that night at the group meeting he still ended up going over to Heer's house. While Sanjana was stewing in her own resentment and anger Kunal arched his eyebrows at Heer and Prem pondering if there was something more than friendship going on between the two.

Kiran walked down the hallway to his room getting ready to change for the night's big occasion. As he entered he saw his wife sitting in front of the vanity table putting on her makeup. He smiled at the sight; even after three years of marriage she still had the ability to take his breath away. He quietly walked over and stood behind her admiring her beauty. Kulraj was busy focusing on what she was doing she barely noticed her husband until she glance up.

"Kiran!" she shouted clasping her chest with her hand. He jumped back at her sudden outburst. "Don't do that. You scared me."

He furrowed his eyebrows, "I can't stare at my beautiful wife?" Kulraj flushed a light shade of pink as she stood up. Kiran smiled and took a rose from the vase on the table and held it in his hand, "A beautiful rose for a beautiful girl."

She took it from his hand and gently pinched his cheek, "So romantic..."

He grinned and then asked, "So have you put any more thought in your decision?"

She nodded, "I think it's the right thing to do."

"Are you sure? I don't want you to give up something you love doing. We can make it work," Kiran replied.

"I know we could, but I think it's the best for Rishi, me, and the little one," she said. "Besides Ma's getting older and even though we have Anjali working during the weekdays helping out I think having me stay at home to take care of things and the kids would be the best."

Kiran wrapped his arms around her waist and hugged her from behind. "All right if you say so...when are you going to announce you're retiring from school?"

"I'll talk to the principle on Monday. I'll just work up until the last 3 months. That should give them plenty of time to find a suitable replacement teacher," she explained.

He gently placed his hand on her stomach, "We still need to tell everyone the good news."

She smiled placing her hand on top of his, "Tonight's the prefect occasion don't you think?" He simply nodded and placed a kiss on her cheek.

Preet swung the brunt gold stole around his neck as he marched into Harman's room uninvited. His brother frowned and said, "Do you ever knock Preet?"

He blinked his eyes, "Why do I need to knock? Unless," he replied getting up really close to Harman, "there is something you are hiding."

He rolled his eyes, "No, there is nothing that I'm hiding."

Preet smiled and looked at Harman's outfit, "Looking very nice brother." Harman was wearing a rust orange kurta that complimented well with his fair complexion.

"Not bad yourself," he complimented in return. Preet grinned proudly as he tapped his blue and burnt gold brocade kurta. He then grabbed Harman's cell phone from off his desk and started to go through the recent calls list. Harman tried taking it back only to have Preet block his attempts.

"You sure do make a lot of calls to Bob," Preet said pushing Harman's arm away.

"That's because I'm interviewing for an internship at his law firm," he explained. "Don't you have to go pick up some people?"

"Nope," he replied. "Sanjana's bringing Heer and Meher over." Preet continued to snoop on his brother's cell phone. "Seems like you've been very smart...erasing the calls...do you have the number memorized?"

"I do not know what you are talking about," Harman replied finally grabbing the phone out of Preet's hand. Just then the cell phone began playing Jay Sean's Down. Harman quickly answered the call and glanced at Preet who made no indication that he was going to leave the room. He sighed and walked out the door hoping his brother wouldn't follow him. Preet just smiled thinking I'll catch you one day...just you wait.

Veera walked down the stairs talking to one of her friends on her cell phone. She was wearing an indo western style black top with silver embroidery and black pants. "I don't understand why she's even thinking about wearing that ugly thing. Yeah, I know it's a gift but that doesn't mean you have to kill your fashion sense over it. Hang on a minute. Someone just rang the door bell." Veera opened the door and to her surprise she saw Preet's Korean friend wearing a white kurta with golden yellow patchwork embroidery. "Oh, hi Sang. Preet's---"

"Right here," Preet interrupted as he popped out from behind his little sister. "Very nice Sang," he complimented upon seeing his friend in an Indian outfit.

He smiled, "Thanks. Rano helped me pick it out. Happy Diwali! I'm here with the sound guys where are we setting up?"

"Happy Diwali!" Preet returned and then waved his hand, "Follow me."

Veera moved out of the way before she got run over by the sound crew bringing in all the audio equipment for the party. As she made her way through the house she spotted her little nephew in a corner doing something. She quickly hung up with her friend and went to investigate. "Rishi?" she softly spoke. The two year old froze at the sound of her voice and refused to turn around. "Rishi, what are you doing?" she gently asked as she bent lower titling her head to the side to get a better view.

Just then Lalit came sneaking out of the office. "Rishi? Beta, come here with the laddoos."

"Bauji?" Veera said in surprise. Lalit halted at the sight of his daughter. At that moment Rishi turned around carrying a laddoo in each hand and started walking towards his grandfather.

"Rishi?!" Lalit shouted in mock surprise. "What are you doing with laddoos?"

Veera crossed her arms, "Ma!" she shouted. Then addressing her father, "Bauji how could you...use Rishi like this."

"Use Rishi?" Lalit replied in alarm. "I did nothing of that sort. He stole the laddoos."

Veera shouted again, "Ma!" and then looked at her father, "You expect me to believe that he took the laddoos by himself without any help?"

"How dare you question your Dad in that way," Lalit replied.

"Ma!" Veera repeated.

"And would you please stop calling for your Mom?" he berated.

"Veera, what's the matter?" Gayatri replied as she hurriedly came over. "Is something wrong?"

"You won't believe what Bauji had Rishi doing," Veera replied. "He had Rishi take laddoos for him."

Lalit waved his hand, "Why would he take laddoos for me? He could have taken them on his own."

Gayatri frowned at her husband, "Rishi may be two years old but there is no way he could have gotten those laddoos without some help."

"Ah, he must have climbed onto something to get them," Lalit explained. "Children can be very resourceful when they need to be."

"So, that's why you were moving the little step ladder," Preet suddenly chimed in. Lalit grimaced at the sight of his youngest son appearing from around the corner.

"He took them and he was going to eat them. I just caught him," Lalit continued explaining hoping to deflect what Preet had just said.

"That's not what happened," Veera replied. "I heard you calling Rishi to bring the laddoos over."

"Beta, you heard wrong," Lalit said.

Gayatri shook her head, "Of all the things'blaming a little two year old for your own plan." She gently bent down and looked at Rishi, "Did grandpa ask you take the laddoos for him?" He glanced up at Lalit who was shaking his head in a pleading manner. "Beta, now tell the truth," Gayatri reasoned.

Rishi pointed with laddoo in hand, "Grandpa."

Veera and Preet high-fived each other while Gayatri shook her head at her husband. She then crouched down and sweetly said, "That's a good boy. You can have both laddoos as your present for telling the truth."

Lalit scoffed, "The child should not be eating that many sweets before dinner."

Gayatri gave her husband a stern look which made him glance down. "Oh the shame of it," she replied as everyone walked away.

Prem nodded his head politely at the man in front of him who was going on about the stock market and its effects on the economy. It was quiet a boring conversation where only the man was talking and he was forced to listen to his ideas. Prem scanned the room searching for way to get out of his current situation. As a waiter approached with some appetizers the man finally stopped talking and turned towards the platter looking at what was being served. Prem smiled and seized the moment to walk away and headed to the foyer. He found Preet pacing back and forth. "What are you doing?" he grinned.

Preet looked up startled that his brother had found him. "Um, nothing."

"You're not waiting for someone are you?" Prem teased.

"What about you?" Preet asked.

"Um, well, I just thought someone should be here to greet the guests as they come in," he reasoned.

"Well, I was doing the same thing," Preet shot back with a thin smile.

The door bell rang and both brothers grew excited at the prospect of who was on the other side. They both grabbed the door knob and opened the door. To their disappointment it was Kunal. "Hey guys," Kunal greeted heartily. He was wearing a bright maroon kurta with an antique zardozi embroidery. The brothers gave him a tense smile. "Gee, great to see you too. Way to welcome a guest."

Prem patted his shoulder and genuinely grinned, "No, really welcome."

Kunal tilted his head, "But I have a feeling you two probably were waiting for them..." and swiftly moved aside letting Sanjana, Heer, and Meher walk in. Sanjana was wearing a rose pink sheer net saree with a deep neck halter brocaded choli that had intricate silver embroidery. Heer wore a dark green, gold embroidered salwar kameez while Meher wore a pink salwar kameez with blue and silver embroidery. Sanjana stared at Prem who was looking extremely dashing in his cream colored embroidered sherwani. She relished the feeling of being in his presence. Sanjana greeted him warmly while he gave her a faint response; his attention fixed elsewhere. Kunal smirked at the scene before him; Prem staring at Heer and Preet staring at Meher. Sensing that they were in the way he quickly grabbed Sanjana's hand and dragged her away into the house.

Preet nervously whispered, "You look really pretty, Meher."

She blushed slightly and said, "You look really handsome, Preet."

He smiled and slap happily said, "You're pinky and I'm billu..."

Kulraj chose at that moment to appear, "Billu and Pinky?"

Preet snapped from his reverie and glanced at his sister in alarm. "Um, Meher let's get something to drink." She nodded and followed him into the crowd. Preet sighed to himself Pinky and Billu (blue)? That was pretty lame. Preet get a hold of yourself...

Meanwhile Kulraj looked on curiously at her other brother Prem who seemed to be in a world of his own as well. Heer swallowed uncomfortably and smiled at Kulraj. "Prem," she said loudly. He blinked and realized where he was and that his sister was grinning at him mischievously. "Enjoy yourselves," Kulraj simply said and turned away giggling secretly.

Heer felt her cheeks go warm and glanced over at Prem. She could feel the thumping of her heart and a strange nervous sensation spreading over her body. She couldn't stop herself from admiring how handsome Prem looked. She noticed his maroon stole was pulled more to the left in an unbalance manner. Without saying a word she reached out to fix it for him. Prem eyes looked on stunned at her sudden action. "Sorry, it was crooked," she explained.

"Thanks," he softly whispered. "Your maangteeka it's...um..." he reached out timidly fumbling with his words, "uh, off...may I?" Realizing what he meant she complied allowing him to move it back into place. Her breath caught in her chest as his hand curved from the side of her face; his fingertips barely touching her skin as they moved up to her forehead. He straightened the maangteeka for her and smiled. "Beautiful." Heer shyly looked up at him. "You look really beautiful today," he complimented.

"Th-thank you," she managed to reply avoiding his gaze.

Just then Lalit came walking in and with a cheery tone, "Ah, Heer Happy Diwali! Come, beta come," he took her by the hand and began leading her inside the house. The other hand grabbed his son's shoulder, "Prem Mr. Wilkerson wants to meet you."

"Haa, Bauji," he obediently replied. He sighed inwardly knowing he was going to be caught in another dull conversation for the next half hour with one of his father's business associates. He wondered if he was ever going to be able to have some fun on his own or be tormented the entire night.

***************************************************************************

Several hours into the night the Juneja party was in full swing. Everyone mingled about talking to old friends and meeting new acquaintances. Prem stood politely listening to the conversation at hand injecting when called on. He knew the reasons why his father was introducing him to many of business associates it was a good way for him to practice his social business skills. Moreover, it was something he would have to become really comfortable doing once he started working at the hotel. It was imperative that he knew how to make business contacts and new alliances. Despite being in his current situation he still managed to seek a few glances out and scan the room looking for Heer. He found her standing in a corner animatedly talking to Meher, Preet, Kunal, and Sanjana. A small smile crept across his face at seeing her enjoying herself. He watched as Preet and Kunal excused themselves to go somewhere. Then without warning he felt a sudden tightness in his chest as he saw a group of guys approach the girls with a clear intent to talk to Heer. Prem felt his hand clench instinctively a surging rise of protectiveness flowed within him. He could sense that Heer was feeling very uncomfortable at the amount of attention she was getting from the boys. He had half the mind to march over there and tell them to leave her alone; and he would have if not for Kunal who had swiftly returned to handle the situation. Prem exhaled as the guys walked away in a sulking manner. He was about turn his attention back to the business talk that was going on until he saw Kunal reach up and take something out of Heer's hair. They both turned to each other and laughed. She hit his shoulder playfully. Prem couldn't help but feel a sense of jealousy even though he knew his best friend wasn't interested in her like that and as far as he knew she wasn't interested in him either. But the sight of the slightly flirtatious behavior was slowly pricking at him.

Just then a familiar feminine figure blocked his view Prem groaned silently in his head. Pia was wearing a shimmery gold fabric saree with a slim pallav and silhouette strappy blouse. He swallowed uncomfortably at the amount of skin she was exposing by the way the she was wearing her saree. The elder men in the group noticed the attractive female and realized they had detained the young man long enough and politely excused themselves leaving Prem alone with Pia. He was slightly thankful that they had finally left him because of Pia's entrance but now he had whole other problem on his hands to deal with.

She walked closer to him and gave a tantalizing smile, "Do you like my saree?"

He grimaced with fake smile, "Um, looks uh, nice. But it seems like you're missing some fabric?"

She giggled, "It's designer made. It's suppose to look like this. Doesn't it remind you of something you would see in a huge Bollywood production?"

"Eh, an item number by Mallika Sherawat...Rakhi Sawant? Even they have more clothes on than you," he mumbled. Pia just laughed taking his words as a compliment.

Across the way Heer was watching attentively at Prem and Pia's interactions. Her eyes narrowed at the way Pia was trying to throw herself at him. She knew that Pia was harmless because Prem didn't have any feelings for her and had made it abundantly clear to everyone including Pia that he wasn't interested. Still a spark of jealousy was starting to flare in her heart.

Noticing what her sister was looking at Meher nudged Preet and indicated with her eyes what was happening. They both turned towards each other and smiled mischievously. "It's time to put part one into action," Preet whispered.

Meher nodded eagerly, "Right." They both gave each other a handshake. "Good luck," she whispered as Preet strolled away towards his brother. Meher felt herself giddy with excitement and tried to calm herself as she walk towards Heer to implement her portion of the plan.
