Oh my so there is such a tradition 😕 I have long hair and need to wash it every other day and condition it at least twice a week and feel icky if its not been cleared no more than max 3 days, that chandan must be excellent stuff to use and what about the hubbys having to put it on and sleep nxt to their wives 😆 with unwashed hair for 9mnths, my husband would wash my hair asap 😆 or make me wear a shower cap, Niki I feel for you, cause you'll hv to keep to this tradition na!

My cousins wife just went through that. Its a command from Goddess. And thats why her hair at 7th month when I met her were in perfect shape. No Dandruff, no chip-chip.
My aunts have done it for all their pregnancies.....

I have not heard of it and none of the women in my families ever did it.
However, there is another ritual in the Gujju (which I am not sure all Gujjus follow but we do) and that is a pregnant woman never rocks an empty cradle. It is supposed to be a bad omen.
We never saw a cradle during Toral's long pregnancy but suddenly there is one in Santu's room and she is rocking it. I wonder why the 2 aunties did not tell Santu anything about this.
In fact, the cradle is not set up till the baby is born.

@ Hema - the empty cradle thing and the buying of toys and setting things up... these were all things that seemed out of place to me too. Not just in a Gujju sense but generally speaking. Nobody's more superstitious than a parent to be and I don't think I even dared look at such things until my first trimester was over and then I just peeked. ☺️

A cradle should not be rocked empty at any time.. its always a bad omen and what is DM doing by collecting all baby things now itself.. that too is a bad omen.. even the new dress for the bay should be boought only after he/she is born.. evrything is going wrong here

A goddess command now that is interesting - at least it is a better response then my mom's I had to do it so you have to do it! Hahahaa

Yeah hair stays fine because it self cleans but it is harder in the modern world as woman go to work, have meetings and stuff, greasy hair is not the look you want.

As for baby things yep it certainly is a bad omen to buy it all before hand, but I mean it the 8th month you need to buy somethings as you will need some things immediately when the baby comes home.
