The Prophesy could not be touched by anyone but Harry or Voldemort, but Voldemort did not yet want to reveal himself to the Wizarding World so he trapped Harry and sent his Death Eaters to get the Prophesy from Harry (he did not know it could not be touched by others), planning to finish off Harry and then reveal himself to the Wizarding World after everyone found out that their saviour was gone.

Yup, that's very true. Every time you read HP you learn something new you must have skimmed over the first time!
