"My goodness, being a wife to such a disorganised person is hard work!" Khanak grumbled at how messy he kept his wardrobe. Was nothing ever kept tidy in his room? She knew she couldn't complain - he'd just tell her not to bother, he didn't need her in his life. But in truth, his life had become the opposite. No longer could he rely on his parents or his brother and bhabi to do his bidding - he had a wife to do it all for him. And he loved it - secretly, of course.
Khanak moved around the house with efficiency. She knew where everything was, and never bothered anyone into helping her - not that her mother-in-law or sister-in-law would lift a finger anyway. She hummed a song as she breezed around the house, tidying away, trying to make it look beautiful before the night's function. She wanted to make a good impression on everyone as Shaan's wife - the person who single-handedly supported him, no matter what. Not even the love of his life Natasha completely stuck up for him. In fact, she seemed to be retreating further away from him the more serious he got about trying to make the marriage work - all in the name of appearances he said.
Moving into the kitchen, Khanak started preparing the food for the function. Having caterers wasn't going to be enough, she wanted everyone to enjoy her food... the way it should always be. Just then, Dadiji walked in, and smiled. Never had she seen a young girl so content in life as Khanak seemed to be. Dadi knew that Khanak still shyed away from Shaan, but that wouldn't last for much longer - Shaan was slowly opening himself up to this marriage, not just for the business but for himself.
"Dadiji.. Dadiji... aap teek hain na?" "Jee beti.. bilkul." And she smiled even wider watching Khanak take control of the kitchen, taking control of the house... it's about time, Dadi thought.
Khanak wanted the night to be perfect. The house was tidied, the food was ready, all that was left was waiting for everyone to arrive... oh no, she hadn't changed yet! Khanak rushed upstairs into her bedroom when she noticed someone standing in the middle of the room.
"Shaan? What's wrong?" Shaan turned to the sound of her voice, noticing the tenderness in her eyes, the soft smile on her lips... She looked so beautiful standing there, he forgot about everyone and everything... except her. Was this the Khanak that he was forced to marry? Was this the girl who wanted him punished for his crime? All he could see was her, his wife, his... soulmate.
"Shaan.. kya hua? Did you not like the clothes I chose for you?" Khanak got worried, she had never seen him stand there speechless. She moved past him, when something held her back.
Shaan had grabbed hold of her dupatta. He slowly pulled her back towards him, and let go. He put his arms around her waist, and pulled her closer to him. He couldn't believe what he was doing, but he knew he couldn't ruin the moment they had... all he knew was her, all he knew was that she was his forever.
Khanak swallowed... what was Shaan doing this time? She tried to get him to let her go, but to no avail. She left his breath tickling her ear, his lips on her hair, drinking her in. She wondered if this was another game he was playing, but quickly dismissed it. She was slowly loosing her senses... she forgot about everything except him.
"Mrs. Shantanu Khandewal, did you think you would escape me so soon? Now I won't let you go..." He turned her around, and tightened his grip on her. Khanak tried again to get him to let go... she started walking backwards towards the wardrobe. She needed to get away from him, she couldn't let herself fall for him. Not now, not yet.
Shaan saw the worry in her eyes, and whispered "Just you and me Khanak, always and forever..." He followed her descent to the wardrobe, but wouldn't let go. She could struggle against him, but eventually she would have to give in.
Khanak found herself pushed against the door of the wardrobe... the way she was when Khanak first came into his house. Where she had almost given in, because of duty. But today, something was different. She knew she couldn't last much longer... but ironically she didn't want to. She wanted to give in, she wanted to become his. She closed her eyes and melted into his arms...
Only to open her eyes soon after and see Shaan had gone. She couldn't believe it... it had been another game he played, until she noticed the bed. Lying there was a blue sari, and matching jewellery. On top was a note in Hindi - "For my wife, the most beautiful person anyone has ever seen. Do hurry down, my eyes are craving your smile. Shaan."
Khanak smiled... what started off as duty had turned into love.

I was in a romantic mood... and I can't wait for ShaNak moments like that.
