Imran's fiancee rips Ranbir's film apart!
Meena Iyer , TNN, Jun 7, 2010, 12.00am IST

... but filmmaker Rahul Rawail takes strong objection, publicly

Avantika Malik (Imran Khan's fiancee) and her mother Vandana gave filmmaker Rahul Rawail more than his ticket's price when he went to see Rajneeti at a Juhu theatre on Friday night. And it was not paisa vasool at all!

According to Rahul's post on a social networking site subsequent to that, the mother and daughter (he didn't name them) were seated right behind him and his wife Rita for the 8 pm show, and he had a "lousy" experience watching the film because of them. Avantika and Vandana reportedly made unsavoury remarks and cat-calls during the screening until Rita finally ticked them off.

Naturally, Rahul's post attracted a huge and curious response. And the filmmaker was inundated with messages to reveal the identity of the women who had ruined the film for him. By Saturday afternoon, Bollywood was abuzz with the incident, because Farah Khan was also present at that show. And there were reports that some others viewers had confirmed a verbal discord between the Rawails and Maliks.

BT's call to Rahul met with a blunt and angry response, "Yes, we were disturbed by Avantika and her mother. Every person buying a ticket has a right to an opinion. You can like or dislike the film. But wait till you leave the theatre to praise or rip it. Filmmakers go to a theatre to guage the audience's reaction. Would they have liked it if I had made a ruckus while watching Kidnap?"

Incidentally, Rahul (who catches new releases every Friday) is a close friend of Rishi Kapoor's and has known Ranbir since he was a boy. Naturally, the filmmaker is protective of his buddy's son. And, there are no prizes for guessing why the Malik women didn't respond favourably to Rajneeti.

Its like: "can you wait till its over so i can watch it in peace? Thanks."

What happened to Democracy.
cant people even voice their opinion if they dislike a movie? Just because most people like a movie does not mean everyone has to.

The question isn't about the democratic right of an individual to voice his opinion. The issue at hand is that of MY (and other people in the audience) individual right to enjoy a movie in peace and quiet, without having to endure someone else's rude chatter and intrusive commentary. The movie hall isn't anyone's personal living space. When I'm shelling out hard-earned money to buy a ticket, I don't care whether you are Roger Ebert _ just keep your opinions to yourself or talk in a voice low enough so that other people do not get unwarranted earfuls.

If you had to pick just one Bollywood movie as your all-time favorite, which one would it be? And what makes it so special for you?
