I don't think 99 percent of people in bollywood are like that. There are some brave souls also who have the courage to take a strong stance on issues even if it means to alienate others. I like how Mahesh bhatt and many others sometimes stand up for things they believe in. Bachchan family is always neither here nor there, they always seem confused and oblivious of the facts in the industry. Abhishek is only brave soul in the family who I think speaks his mind.. no offence!

Agree. When Salman spoke in support of SRK during the whole MNIK controversy he knew what he was getting into ,still he came out & gave his statement. And there was a huge backlash even Salman's effigies were burnt & there were protests outside his house too by the Sena coz he supported Srk's stand.
And also Salman was the 1st celeb to come out vocally in public with his support for Srk.Most celebs chickened & adopted the "no comments" & few who supported was so late that it didn't matter. .Bachchans also didn't comment on it.

He is quite close to a lot of the Southern stars like Rajnikant, and attending the IIFA might hurt their sentiments and also there were protests outside his home against him attending the IIFA, he is trying to respect the sentiments of those people. As an AB fan I find very disturbing when people look for any reason to criticise him, there are other stars who were also going to attend but suddenly pulled out, like SRK was going to be the captain of one of those teams, so why not criticise him too.
I'm pretty sure if AB decided to attend there would still be many criticising him for not respecting the sentiments of the south indians! So he can't win either way!
Salman is attending, good for him that's his decision, but don't criticise AB for not attending as that's his personal decision.. He can't please everyone!

well sorry abt the Amitab Bachchan comment if it hurt ur sentiments simply take it as me taking him as an elder i used to look up to..so i guess he becomes the focal target as he is simply him!and may be cz he is older than SRK n the co i expected him to be more responsible..

and mainly i didn't say anything about others is cz NON of them is the brand ambassador of IIFA!

I agree at some level with your comments- India cannot poke their nose in Sri Lanka's internal matters, which is why I think we should not force anyone to boycott the event.
however as individuals and as a community its upto us as to how we feel about a situation and if we feel strongly- protest. But protest cannot include forceful partcipation.
No matter how many years go by we all have a sense of community feeling with those who speak the same language as us and have lived in the same land as ours.
So although this is SL's internal matter I dont think its wrong to sympathise with the Tamilians in SL just not as a Tamilan myself but also as a person standing up for human rights.

well i have to say this to u guys..Sri Lankan Tamils DO NOT belong to either the NRI community of India nor do they belong to Indian diaspora living abroad..they are essentially sri lankans having every right every Sinhalese, Muslim, Burger or any other citizen has..they havent come from abroad n settled here..they have been here 4 over 1000 years of our history..n are an integral part of sri lanka which makes it different to people who have gone and settled in western countries etc.
do any1 of u know that only abt 30% of our entire tamil population is in the war torn areas?the rest of them are with every1 else n living pretty peacefully attending the same schools studying both sinhala n tamil languages, universities n working in the same offices or going to parties in everyday life!!we r a diverse society..every1 is every where n together..specially quite a high percentage of us have mixed parentage so we can see both sides..
its easier to talk about something they don't know anything about living thousands of miles away in safety.but its different once u see 4 urself..
let this country get up on its feet..help them support the war victims..n that is why i believe blackmailing bollywood isn't fair nor sensible when they r working towards a worthy cause..

n i don't wanna fight..just stated y political issues shouldn't be made to put artists in tight corners..
