Not much of her in this song. This was mostly a male song, and from what I heard, she was OK comapared to the other songs she has sung. I give her a 7!

I haven't heard this song before. my honest opinion (don't get me wrong or start bashing me for the opinion). i don't think slow, sad songs suit shilpa that much. but anyways she sung this song really well. def had the emotion and feel in her voice. She had a great throw in her voice. But I've heard better songs from her and thought there were places that she could have been better in. I also felt the guy had a greater role in the song than her. Or maybe it felt that like in the first half of the song. Either way great singing by Shilpa, but could have been a bit better in my honest opinion. Also there really wasn't much variation in the voice. The guy had a lot more in that aspect. So overall not the best song for Shilpa.

Well Mahalaxmi Iyer 1st Round in "Aye Ajnabi" for one. Which you gave 8 too. She had 1 line the whole song. Though it was sung with variation. Here, Shilpa in the beginning and ending singing is different. And she sang many more different lines. And her overall singing length was much greater as well. I gave both a 7.

o.kk u said it ..Mahalaxmi 's song had variations ...though it was just one line ...and her song touched me more than this ...Here I felt the male singer overshadowed Shilpa ...There I never felt Uditji overshadowing her ...singing 6, 7 variations of one line created that much impact on me ...and I completely mark these songs the way that singer touches my soul...it's an instant reaction....May be if I was a judge I would have weighed these nitty gritty details more ...
But I do appreciate ur input....😊
@ Xobile ....I heard u loud and clear...will not call it a sufi song...
BTW..what do we call it then ???😃

One of my favourite soothing tracks! Hhhmmmm..lets see...

The starting was fantastic, with the soulful alaap by Shilpa. I love the way she begins "Tosay Naina Lagay Piya Sanwaray", it takes the breath away. The male singing is excellent I must say. There is soaring unique beauty in the voice of Shilpa, which is clearly seen here. Subtlety in the singing is the apt requirement of this song, which is properly provided. However, I felt that the throw could have been improved keeping the softness of the voice. I loved the line "Nahin Koi Insaan Mohabbat Se Khali", but I felt the apt passion for this line was not there. For me, the male singing stole the show of this performance. Never-the-less Shilpa manages to retain her individuality here, especially with her beautiful starting and ending of the song.

Concluding my evaluation, My score for this performance will sum up to be 8 out 10.

The song doesn't fit it into any particular genre in my mind.

Maybe someone else would like to offer a description of the exact genre - the song has a slight thumri ang along with Western production elements. I'm not too well versed with all the Western genres, so can't pinpoint which genre the production/arrangement resembles more...😕 But I can say that it's definitely not sufi 😃

Why not just call it a romantic song? 😆 To me the lyrics seem to imbibe very Indianised romanticm. But we could just avoid all the confusion and call it a philosophical/romantic song...

She may not produce the most magical murkis in her throat, may not have the greatest power in her voice, but she has the soul and depth. And most importantly, her voice is reallly, I mean really unique, unlike some make-believe current Sufi singers, and that's what today's MDs look for, at least as they claim.

Just my musical sense and sensibilities. :)
