We have discussed quite a bit about terrorism in USA and in India. Recent debates about Kasab and 26/11, reminded me of another horrifying tragedy of terror that took place in 2004. I thought I would post it in Kaho Jo Kehna hain, but then I figured - this deserves more attention. Here is a documentary on the children who survived the Beslan school hostage crisis.

What do we discuss? Honestly, I do not know. I am not too familiar with the history of Russia and Chechnya. Maybe we can learn about their part of the world. For me what strikes out is the horrifying face of terror no matter what part of the world. Even more sickening that some people think it is ok to harm innocent children as means to their end. No cause is worth harming innocent children.

there are over 6 billion people in this world, so some people value human lives less and care for their own cause and beliefs.

This was one of the most heart wrenching and hideous acts in modern times. Thoroughly unacceptable.
However, Russia's stance and treatment to the Chechens in just as unacceptable. Russians and their Brutal Treatment on Chechens deserve equal condemnation.

Its a desperate and derailed attempt I feel.

I doubt if this act was designed by the Chechens Liberatists themselves. Such acts sometimes occur when there are Independent groups which are formed away from the mainstream liberation organisation. Such little groups need hired strategists (rented/hired), e.g. an experienced Mujahideen, or someone expert in carrying out retialiatory/violent operation with minimum resources (and lower the budget, more mad/extreme/foolish the hired employee). However, it surely did not work too well when it comes to International Relations.

In no way ... in no way children can be made targets... even if some Chechens say that their children have been brutalised and killed in the same way ... there are always other ways. This is not good.

However, just to add to the discussion here ... please find some links below from reputable sources, describing Russia and Chechen problem ... and the brutal/barbaric/"Byzantine" treatment of the Chechens.

I too hope/pray, that soon oneday, an Independent - Secular - Democratic Chechnya can rise from the rubbles on the MAP OF EUROPE ... and contribute to peace and progress of humanity.

A little bit something personal about Mr. Ramzan Karadov ... the puppet of Russia (source, LA Times)

Ramzan likes to dance ... almost as NERO loved to play music when ROME BURNED.

Communists generally never give in to threats and hostage demands. They are basically like army personell who think that enemies should be killed at all cost and losing some of their own men or people is of no consequence. Russia still has that mentality and often they themselves too will go all out to kill those that oppose. I am sure China is no different but it is slowly changing.
