Hey...lol sorry about this...I totally forgot that I was supposed to open the discussion of the week and the game of the week (I was right?) thanks Nitz for reminding me!!
kk so this is going to be breif and I am sure this has been discussed before and to death really!
Why is a woman still associated with her husband? The story of Khanak is not one of a 19th century girl but of a modern age girl...true she belongs to a village but do such things in a village still exists? I am sure they do!
So what can we do to change something this thought?
Just because a woman has been widowed...why is she called apshagun? Why isn't a man called that when his wife dies?
I know most of the answers will be this is how the society is...but why is it like this? Can't we do anything to change this?
I am not trying to be feminist here...believe me I am more of a humanist than a feminst...but when I think about it...it seems as if the feminism has been more west oriented (it can be argued that even they are subjected to sexism)...have you ever seen or experience such a movement in 3rd world countries? Are they beneficial at all?

These things still do exist in villages and in some villages its so bad that the gal would be balded and she would be made to sit in a corner and not to be allowed to go out for a long time and not to be allowed to talk to her parents too.... she is made to be associated to her husband and even if she wants a way out society or villagers wont allow her as its considered a bad and world ending crime sort of thing ................... To change something like this first a women should understand the other women who is a widow , most of the time i find women treating and blaming widow very badly , change has to come with in thinking of a women .........and when it comes to men , they have to realise that both gal and boy have equal values and are equal in every aspect and if given a chance gal can do wonders and first they should stop underestimating women and stop treating them as nothing .............................
A widow is considered as Apshagun as she was married to the guy who is suppose to be bread earner of the family , and when it comes to a widower its a big deal as gal is not so important to run a family , but a guy is need to get married again as he has to take the family tree forward .,................
Change comes when pppl start to thinking out of te box , and its happening in metros but when its the same in rural places , if anyone voices out they are considered to be very uncultural person with loose character ..........
hope i made some sense

Hi., It is always double standards for men and women on
remarriage especially in villages.
Men marry sometimes even immediately.,much younger women under the pretext of having somebody to cook and look after them.,whereas
if a young woman talks even with a man well known to her previously it becomes a character default.
More often the elder women themselves oppose to someone in their family getting remarried.,under the name of family traditions.
that is why somany honour killings happen even today in the name of caste, status etc.,
The mind of the people has to change. They should understand that everyone has a right to lead their ownlife.,and people should only give guidance instead of making decisions

hmmm...I do agree with you both...it is the women who need to first change their thoughts toward other women! If you can't respect your own why would the other gender respect you!
