This youngster's out of Indian Idol and into Balaji's new love saga. |

Mumbai, January 30: I am disappointed with my loss at Sony's Indian Idol... I was quite depressed after I was eliminated in the piano round. But Tarun Katial, Sony's CEO, offered me a role in this Balaji serial—tentatively called Kaisa Yeh Pyaar hai—three hours after my elimination. So I'm quite lucky. I didn't like the way Indian Idol was judged... All of us, including the judges, felt that the janata was voting sentimentally and not sensibly. They only wanted the underdog to win. I grew up in New York and moved here a year ago. But oddly, when I sing, the accent isn't there. I guess when I speak, I tend to think in English. Luckily, at the Balaji auditions, I had no problems with dialogue delivery. I am now playing a strong, intense man... My character, Prithvi, loves this girl called Kripa unconditionally. I'm very excited about the role, especially because it's a musical and I get to sing too. The role's similar to Ajay Devgan's in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam... I'm preparing for the role by observing other actors, and drawing inspiration from good performances in Hindi films. I confess I want to concentrate on acting... I'm thrilled it has worked out with Balaji. Amitabh Bachchan is my idol. Anil Kapoor is so versatile and Shah Rukh Khan is best at all the romantic stuff. I still have plans for a career in music... Singing is my passion and I hope to pursue it once I've honed myself as an actor. I plan to cut an album one day—a fusion of Indi-pop, rhythm and blues, jazz and hip-hop—something like Jay Sean's music. I'm playing safe with both options... I hope I can have fingers in both pies. Nothing like being a singing filmstar! |
