Tellycafe lists six of the silliest characters on television

It's called an Idiot Box. Then those who appear in television and those who watch it must be idiots too. That's been the popular perception of TV stars and couch potatoes. This is an unfair criticism of television. After all, this medium has its loyal viewers who must be respected

However, TV and its stars have given enough reasons or produced such inane characters that become the laughing stock of the country. That doesn't say that these characters aren't a hit with the audience. It's just that they invoke different and funny emotions from the viewers.

History shows that TV is riddled with such characters. We bring to you some of the most foolish characters on television today. We urge the artists, who play these characters to take things in the right spirit. After all, it's April fool today.

Here are the Fabulous Fools

Maniben

As Tulsi of Kyunki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi, Smriti Iraani had horde of admirers as well as her fair share of critics too. One of the criticisms levied against her was that despite playing a Gujarati character, Iraani never sounded like one. The mere 'Jai Shree Krishna' greeting appeased some but it didn't convince all.

Perhaps, Iraani took cognizance of this point and so, our lady came up with this Gujarati bumpkin called Maniben. My goodness, condemn the critics who questioned Iraani's Gujarati. It's not that Smriti mastered the language but her display left one running for cover. She went horribly wrong in trying to be the next Daksha chachi or Dayaben.

Maniben's screeches can deafen your ears; her cheesy smile will ruin your otherwise bright day. Add to the above defects, Maniben's flabby frame and you don't need a Gabbar Singh to frighten kids who are loathe to sleeping early.

Sunehri

Shivangi Sharma is a name that's simply anonymous with the couch potatoes. However, say Sunehri and the same people will laugh in embarrassment. Sunehri is considered to be only the weakest link in an otherwise impressive ensemble of Na aana is des Laado.

Forever clad in gaudy saris, unwarranted make-up, radar-like ears, plotting against other women, Sunehri is a character that's ideally fitted for the K-soaps.

Fathom this; our lady was in her usual colorful avatar during the funeral of Ammaji. Alright, the funeral was fake but when all other actors were dressed in sobering whites why was Sunehri allowed to be her usual colorful self?

Well, some might argue her names means flashy but sorry this Sunehri can't fool the viewers.

Mahi

Make no bones, the flabby and dim wit Mahi (Pushtiie) is a popular character but that's not reflected in the show's TRPs. After all, no sane woman will like to go the Mahi Way. She's fat, dumb, and low on confidence yet she aspires for Mr. Perfect. If one shared this mentality, then all obese women will remain spinsters for life.

Obesity is a reality but not all portly spinsters are as gullible as Mahi. So, while she's the butt of all jokes for the normal sized women, Mahi certainly embarrasses girls of her frame.

Credit though should be given to Pushtiie for playing such a foolish character. It takes courage to make people laugh at your own expense. So, Pushtiie keep going the Mahi way.

Nakusha

Aye la, nakusha la naka baghu (Don't look at Nakusha). Don't fault the parents who issue this advisory to their child. All creations of God are beautiful, but this one is an exception. Okay, as producer Paresh Rawal reportedly said that he made Laagi tujhse lagan inspired by a legend from his maid, but Nakusha is perhaps far scary than one envisaged

A pretty lass like Mahi Vij is painted all black using the darkest of all shades. Worse, the shade is also used to bind the brows. Alright, some of our women are hairy but there's never been one with such dense growth of hair, that too in the wrong areas.

Well, as we all know Nakusha is actually a fair princess but her kabhi black kabhi white avatar makes you wonder what cleansing accessories does our girl uses. Nevertheless, this black and white look is a symbol of racial harmony within oneself.

As the late great MJ would say, 'But, if you're thinking' about my baby it don't matter if you're black or white'. Kudos to Mahi for playing such a dreadful character.

Frederick

The team of Sony's CID has successfully solved criminal cases for 12 years but viewers are still dumbfounded by the histrionics of sub-inspector Fredericks (Dinesh Phadnis).

Here is a character far from reality. He comes up with the most frivolous ideas but astonishingly, they often beat the brains of M/s Pradyuman & co.

Pradyuman directs Daya to open the door but Frederick would come up saying chabi lana bhool gaya (I forgot to bring the keys).

How can an idiot like Frederick be part of a CID team? True, this is just a show, but one ought to respect the institution of CID which is usually home to the brightest and intellectual officers of our police force.

Suryakamaal

TV shows are inspired by Bollywood scripts but seldom has any one copied the look too. Surprisingly, of the all people, it was Rajshri productions which blundered badly by creating Suryakamaal - the idiot box's equivalent to Surinder Sahni of Rab ne bana di jodi fame.

Like Surinder, Suryakamaal too sports big glasses, oily hairdo, formal attire and a silly moustache, one that at times doesn't seem to stick properly.

This least impressed the viewers and perhaps even Shah Rukh Khan must have laughed at his idiotic impersonation by Shaleen Bhanot.

Mrs.Daljit Bhanot may shower huge praise on her man, but honestly speaking, Suryakamaal is perhaps the most foolish character on small screen today.

Freddy comes up with stupid theories to lighten the atmosphere but doesn't mean he can't do his job well. Whenever he had been given a work by ACP he fulfilled it efficiently. Just because someone likes to come up with jokes does not mean he is an "idiot". I am sure cops are human and it's not a sin if sometimes they joke a little. It's more realistic according to me.

These people need to understand that this was not our actual Freddy even though we love him even in this way but he did not crack stupid jokes like he does now earlier. He was rather silent and used to do some substantial work other that cracking jokes and clicking photographs and we all equally loved him then also,I don't know why it was decided to bring about this change in Freddy's character,Freddy is fuuny but he is not a joker,he has been with CID almost from the beginning and deserves much more than what he is doing now,I actually feel hurt sometimes when his junior Vivek makes fun of him, I wish BP Singh understands this and hopefully Freddy reduces this buffoonery soon

Most difficult job is to find one record from numerous records and to follow someone day and night. He has done his job with full commitment from past 12 years. Nobody can challenge this. He comes with jokes to lighten the mood of his colleagues he know how much stress they face.

From past few episodes its getting over with jokes. I know. But you cannot say he is not worthwhile to be a CID officer.

Honestly this article makes no sense to me, except the Freddie part and the Mahi part (thanks to the promos shown during CID re-runs). I have no idea of any of the other serials.
I wish Freddie stops promoting other serials...that's one thing I don't like about his character. Also the cheap jokes like he did in one episode (running to the rest room during an investigation). Humour has to be a bit more dignified...especially when it involves a senior character like him.
Otherwise, I don't mind Freddie cracking jokes.
I hope the script writers take note of this.

I know, one the few rare scenes in CID that made me cringe. They have done that a couple of times and I hate it. Toilet Humor is a BIG NO, should be BANNED.
