Should we have a chat thread?

I was thinking about this.

I think chat club works when the show comes to an end or there is not much to talk about (the show) ...That time antakshari thread, game threads , chat threads ....everything works to keep the section alive till it is archived !!!!!!!...

Yes but the conversations should be such that everyone is allowed to join in, so that even those shy people can easily come out of their shells.

A general discussion should be there, where everybody knows that what the conversation is all about, personal chats should not be included, that is my opinion. But, yes, chat club can be interesting.

I don't think that the conversations will disintergrate into personal ones....as for me, this is the first time in this forum, and I don't know people, so it can't get personal. But eventually, as time flies by, you get accustomed to the people and then the conversation divulges into personal ones. That's just the way it is. But by then, I hope we'll know each other better. But I liked what you said.👍🏼

Actually I have seen discussions that start just between some particular group on something they seem to have common, or they find that they were buddies etc and thus, starts the conversation which others have no interest in, so everyone else fails to enter the conversation or feels it bad to disrupt the on-going conversation, that is why I believe that a general discussion on some particular topic can be interesting, because even a silent reader will enjoy it.

Its alright with me. Provided the Chat thread is in the forum itself and we dont have to go to the CC and chat.

I wonder what the 'chat' will be about...

If it is a topic of discussion relevant to Indian Idol, it should be posted as a topic and not in the chat thread. If it is a discussion of some other show/topic, then there are other relevant forums on IF.

The only kind of 'chat' I can imagine in such a thread would be small talk and personal discussions - is there really any need for a public thread in the Indian Idol 5 Forum for that? You can use PMs and other forums for that.... Plus there already is an intrductions thread in the II5 Forum.

I wouldn't mind a chat thread if it couldn't have any bad consequences. But in my previous forum, a thread for members with a common interest became unnecessarily long as members used the public thread to have private conversations. Rather than bringing the forum together, the thread became quite insular as others were neither interested in, nor confident to join in.

So I have my doubts... A chat thread could end up being useful/entertaining for a few but redundant for others - thus dividing up the II5 Forum.

By the way, I haven't voted in the poll yet!
