MJHT Discussion post: Tracks & Character growth.

Hey u'll so how are things basically a very dull day and a boring weekend as no MJHT, wow love it or hate it, u cant ignore it – that's what i learned

Ok now to the point: so had been bored and was thinking , when i realized it has been long since i made a MJHT post so am here for 1 today and hope all MJHTians join me if they can 😳

My idea for this post came after i heard neeraj sachdeva's tt interview; i must say only 1 point in particular got my attention – as he said of character growth with tracks – fine off late basically since this week am witnessing it in our 4 leads.

In Samrat is a sea-change where we have seen him go from the jovial prankster to the incredibly mature supportive BF who made Gunjan realize her dreams and stood by her; something which i think will be the crux of this trio track.

For Gunjan – it was no less than a surprise when the shy reserved gal became humane as she explored the deepest desires of any human heart – to be known, appreciated and stand out in a crowd.

For Nupur – i think this growth relates with the aspect about how you deal with broken dreams and unfulfilled desires and stand brave in the face of them not letting that 1 unachieved dream to break you

And lastly i think Mayank is coming back to his roots – the no –nonsense focussed guy who had ambitions and beneath the tough exterior where he thou disliked bein called mayu or his hair being touched in his heart he's a true mama' boy who really loves it all – so hey can shilpa aunty' return be next on the cards ?

Wow will be great – but then that's not the point of the post thou it'd be fantastic to have her back
Ok so as i said growth in this 1 week is visible but then i hope things stay that way as post the morena track frankly thou the stories moved ahead – the characters didnt.

Yes we had SaJan confession – thankfully after a year and b4 2009 ended and MayUr' marriage in early 2010 – but did they grow ?

Post morena in an attempt to create the next IT couple in MJHT - the story lost it's way somewhere as neither the whole babloo track was needed, nor was the political one or the baby one.

For Sam's family they could have just got Suhani and it'd have been gr8, to check Mayank's credibilty as a SIL nups' bauji could have asked him the same ques b4 marriage – the ones he did as soon as they came to him for his blessings and gave him a year's time to show – that if he could manage a decent even part time job and make savings while he looked for his own expenditure then he and nups could marry would have made sense perhaps – ahh well but what's the use of crying over spilt milk right?

Next the political track highlighted Nups' bravery or the paralysis one – Samrat's Love for Gunjan mostly and the baby one may be where we saw Gunji' trust in Sam. But beyond that they were lame.

So now as i think our constant mails and pleas crashing the server of MJHT CV'S is doing wonders – in this post please do state what kind of a growth you will like to see in the leads and the story over all.


Note: please dont create a war zone in this thread my friends i request you – no bashing of characters or actors – pls – if you dont have nice words pls dont be rude as it creates unnecessary troubles.

Please be nice to Preeti, Gagan, Avani , Ravjot and/or any other mod – they are doing a gr8 job dont stress em too much.

The purpose of this post is not to bash or ridicule or to find out the better actor/pair – but to have a better story and character growth.

As frankly no one enjoyed the babloo, political or even the baby track to be honest – so instead of warring over – lets make peace – for a show we all love.

Mayank Sharma

From the academically inclined cool dude with not a care for the world, he changed into a guy so smitten in love that he forgot the very basis of his existence, again since he had to face a lot of hazzle due to his love only made him deviate from his basic nature. As he feels more comfortable with his life , as he is secure in his relationship, he realises he has deviated from his path, his dream to achieve his goals. So, we are hopefully on track with Mr Sharma going back to being focussed, but with the changes brought in him (which is the masti element in his life, besides the support) things are only looking good for him ..for now!!

Nupur Bhushan

I wonder how anybody feels she has not developed as a character, there has never been a character more realistic than Nupur, which is why people hate her at times and love her at other times..see the crux of the matter is u need to be real for people to feel that way.
Nupur was a very sweet filmy girl, confident and crooked, but caring and endearing...as life threw up many challenges in her life, she probably developed a slight amount of bitterness in her that
changed a bit of her. The way she reacted when she found that he little sister agreed to her Bauji more than herself in the mess of a marriage she had, she couldn't help but feel lost and tried to hold on to the reins of the life of her sister. This was her desperate attempt to hold onto things that she held precious in life. She had a marriage that was no where near her dream wedding considering she almost got married to someone else, faced the wrath of a bauji who was double faced and got insulted for no fault of hers. That she manages to be happy is a miracle.
Infact the way she was happy for Gunjan for the role she bagged is the ample proof of her strength of character and ability to survive all odds...she has emerged stronger, but she still has to face the reality of some childhood dreams that are shattered and a fresh set of dreams that she needs to pursue,,



Samrat Shergill

From being a cool dude of the college to being a mature understanding boyfriend . Samrat has surely traversed a long distance and creditably stayed true to character most of the time.
The very basis of Samrat's character is that he is fighting a few demons that had to do with a bitter separation between his parents and the apparent loneliness he feels. To mask the pain, he manages to get himself an image where people wouldn't probably question his real self. Blowing a few kisses to the girls, pretending not to be interested in studies, being a basketball champ and generally being the cool dude of the college. Interesting how he comes on his own with the help of his best friend Gunjan. He falls in love with the wrong girl. He thinks he is in love with her, while his true love was his best friend all along. There is a way his character doesnt realise this probably because, he has been so alone in his life that he doesnt want to lose the one person most precious to him. Once he realises, there not a person surer than him, he expresses his love openly and is confident of her as the love of his life. Once secure in his love for her, he is not ashamed to accept it to the world because she is the anchor he s been looking for.
Again owing to his difficult past, he still has slight commitment issues, though he loves her, he does not believe in marriage, yet he is willing to marry her for her happiness..his path is to realise that she is precious to him and he wants to marry her too!!

Gunjan Bhushan

Starting off as a simple innocent girl from a small time town, she was largely overshadowed by her big sister in all her pursuits as a young girl. But in excel, she comes into her on as Samrat coaxes her to sing in front of a crowd and alleviate her fears by being there for her, she slowly learns to pursue her dreams, she further goes on to win the RJ hunt and gains the confidence in herself as well as Samrat..but its her loss for a while of the person she loves that changes her. She is happy for her best friend when he is in love with someone else and tries her best to be his support. Yet she is hurting as she has lost the love of her life. Her life takes a downturn from thereon, finally when she is accused of things she dint do, its her basic nature and Samrat's trust in her that comes to her rescue, that she is incapable doing an act as mean as pushing someone into the pool is something everybody knows, but when Samrat defends her vehemently, she gains the confidence she seemed to have lost. As she falls in love, she becomes stronger and happier though often daunted by insecurities of not being good enough, but now this change in her life..where she wins the role of a lead actress in a movie, is her opportunity to fight her insecurities and come into her own.

i ahte weekends too...awesum topiuc ahaana......and rightly said,the chreacter of MJHT had seen a massive growth......may it be
mayank-who went from a non-beliver to a beliver,learned to love
nupur-who finally became smarter,ill prefer to say she grew out fro her dreams to reality
gunjan-who changed the least accoring to me.....shes still preety much the same
samrat-became more responsible,more mature,thanks to gunjan
not to mention dia-who became more somber more sweet leaving her bitchy avatar behind...

Gunjan -
Well, we have seen a LOT of growth in this character. She was such a shy and reserved girl initially but now she has turned a bit loud (in a good way). This character hardly used to interact with anybody but Nupur and rarely Samrat. After SaJan's patch up i.e on the valentines night, Gunjan became a bit more open with her feelings.. She started interacting with everybody, especially Samrat 😳 and became more confident.
My take on the character growth of Gunjan- Gunjan has had a lot of growth in her character. I liked the old Gunjan more but this Gunjan is also nice. At first I found her character quite unrealistic yet charming and sweet but now I can relate her to myself. Now her character has become quite realistic but the charm and sweetness remains the same 😃


Samrat -
Samrat has also had a lot of growth in his character. From a cool dude, a stud, a prankster, he has become a one-woman-man 😳 . He has turned a lot more mature now. Nowadays no girl line marofies on him 😆 He is completely lost in Chashmish land now 😛 Initially, he was a basket ball star who was always shown in the BB court but now he is hardly practicing. But nevertheless, I like the character growth.
My take on the character growth of Samrat - I really adored the old prankster Samrat. He used to so bubbly in nature! But now the growth in his character has turned him a lot more mature. I am not saying it's bad but I really miss the old hunk Samrat. But I really liked one thing about this new Samrat that he is a lot more compatible with Mayank. I love this SaYank bonding! (Mohit has improved leaps and bounds in acting 😃 )


Nupur -
There wasn't much of growth in Nupur's character, I believe. She is the same old bubbly Nupur for me. The MOST realistic character in MJHT. The older protective sister, the wonderful wife (previously girlfriend) and a good daughter she tried to be (she IS) . A witty girl with a lot of humour.. Who won't like this character? 😳
My take on the growth of Nupur's character - She is the liveliest character in MJHT. I am so thankful that her character hasn't changed much (I am saying this because I have never heard anybody say that he/she is missing the OLD Nupur) . I loved her character development in the political track. The protective sister who could do anything to save her younger sister's life. 😃

Mayank -
The bookworm, nerd, the guy with attitude has undergone a lot of character growth. Initially, he was a serious, focused young boy who was lost in his own world of his love- BOOKS. But after meeting Nupur, the actual character development took place. He started mingling with others. But in that baby track, they made a mockery out of his character. But now, we can see the glimpse of old Mayank in him. At least you can make it out from the last two episodes.
My take on the growth of Mayank's character - I loved that akdu, sadu, old Mayank! He was so damn adorable! During the marriage track, we got to see the emotional side of Mayank which I am sure brought tears in our eyes. But slowly, in that baby track, Mayank was lost. We got to see some I don't know what to say but I didn't like that Mayank. He was NOT our Mayank! But thankfully, our Mayank came back by the end of the baby track. Now hopefully in the coming episodes, we get OUR Mayank back 😃

hey ahana! very interesting topic dear! 👏& i m sorry i completely forgot that i reserved a post here..but now as i don't hv any time write coz my god damn power cut !😡 i will just take the easy way out..i agree with divz abt mayank & nupur ....
fro Mayank well we lost him in baby track, but it looks like we r getting him back.The studious, focused, practical guy.who knows how to achieve his dreams in life.
& for nupur.she already portrayed various shade in her characters.a bubbly fun loving gal, a determined hard working student,a multi talented gal who can dance, act & do well in academic competition also! a great sis, a great gal friend & a cute wife! & i m looking forward for more new shades in her character!!!!
& as for SG, i really don't wanna comment .coz i know SG fans r all there who will write thousand times better than me for them.

I can spend more time discussing Samrat and Gunjan because I find them the most interesting characters (no surprises there 😉) in terms of how there is so much contrast between what they show to the world, and what they are inside - always fascinating for me.

Samrat first appealed to me when those hidden facets were first shown glimpses of ... his missing parents, his loneliness in spite of being surrounded by friends and loved by girls, his fierce loyalty to anyone he called a friend. His character development has been probably the best of the lot ... it's been slow and steady, with no major character deviations ... from a don't-care, egoistic cool dude (though with a heart of gold) he has developed into a caring, committed and much more mature character, who will go completely all out for his friends, and who is deeply in love with a girl who is his soulmate in almost all ways. He has changed both because of his feelings for Gunjan, and because of the kind of person she is ... he was always good to his friends, but initially he was uncaring of the feelings of others who were not in his circle - the way he teased Gunjan at the start being one example. Slowly as he has matured, he has learned from her to understand and appreciate the feelings of others, and that is the biggest plus point of his character development. And of course, the best part has been the change from cool dude casanova to a very caring, completely committed and deeply in love boyfriend. The last of his demons - his marriage doubts - are still left, although he has committed to marrying Gunjan, but because she wants it, not because he believes in it - and hopefully this track will see further development in this aspect of their story.

Gunjan - again, I could write reams on her character, not only during the show, but before it - what made her such a shy, timid person in the first place, scared of her own shadow, in spite of being so bright and intelligent. being overshadowed almost constantly by a dominating, vivacious and extremely popular older sister, being plain and spectacled (at least I think she's supposed to be plain - Sanaya makes that difficult to believe 😉), being motherless from a young age and being brought up by a traditional, conservative aunt like Bui - all those would have shaped her into the timid girl we saw at the start of the show. I can almost imagine Bui saying - Nupur is so pretty and so popular, but who will marry a plain, chashmevali girl like my poor Gunjan - thereby killing her self-esteem completely - because women like Bui think there is only one career for a girl.
And yet she has managed to retain an inner strength, a stubbornness, and this has started surfacing more and more as her character developed - first the TP, then the RJ hunt, then organising the music for the play, dancing on stage - the public performances that she was so petrified of, come easy to her now. And the confidence to express herself - her confidence started when she and Samrat became friends, at first he didn't even want to acknowledge her in front of his friends, but once he did, her confidence grew as well. It took a beating again during Sheena, then grew during the jail track when she supported Samrat - after the first day, she did not shed a single tear again. Post confession there has been a lot of growth as her trust and confidence in her relationship has grown, she has grown as a person as well - she is no longer ready to listen all the time - she was the only person to say that the gang might not be correct in their treatment of Adhiraj, when Mayank returned from B'lore, and had the misunderstanding with Nups, she ticked him off, she has always told Samrat when he has gone wrong, and she even had the confidence to stand up to Nupur when she felt Nupur was wrong in misunderstanding Samrat - which is something she had never done before. After the paralysis recovery track, she seems to have lost most of her insecurities about not being good enough for Samrat ... whether this new track will be about her remaining insecuritites, or Samrat's marriage and family phobia, I'm still not sure. But I'm looking forward to it!

Dia is another person who has shown growth as a character - from being a fairly shallow, vain diva with hangers-on like Annie and Chacko, she has grown into a sensible, affectionate sister and good friend, while she still retains her 'cool' attitude. The RV track did a lot to develop her nicer traits.

Uday has shown some development recently - although he's always a clown, but his concern for his sisters has become very genuine and sweet - be it for Dia during RV, for Gunjan with his determination to help her recovery, and for Nupur, which always backfires!!!

Mayank and Nupur I will leave to their resident experts - except that I rather like the way Mayank has become more a part of the gang and less of a loner, and the way he treats Samrat and Gunjan as equals, but still can petrify Uday and Benji with one look! I more or less agree with Divya on Mayank - but not on Nupur ... sorry, Divya 😉
