You are welcome, Caro..I was pleasantly surprised to know that this was Kalaripayattu as well..and when Shakti-Amar did the same dance style, there were many who even questioned it as a dance form!!

LOL
ya that was kalaripayattu... martial arts are ALL RHYTHMIC!

I wouldnt even acknowledge people who claim dance are martial arts are not mixed up..they are interleaved

even though the basic idea in the following dance is copied from the chinese movie house of chambers

here is a bharatanatyam dance which serves as martial arts :P

it is not pure....but Martial arts and dances are heavily interleaved forms

Iam not telugu but i watch telugu movies... watch the above sequence 5.43-6.43... the other sequences before and after are not my favourites

the lady kind of explains that there was a version of bharatanatym that also used to serve as self defence operation in the past..India's cultural history is vast..and I am willing to believe that even though the sequence isnt original

this si a rather filmy sequence and the idea is kind of lifted from a chinese movie i mentioned..i just looked it up.... House of FLying Daggers

here is the self defense version of bharatanatyam as presented in the movie..I could not get a better example..she is supposed to be a princess

and she is a bad dancer..but this just to present the idea..the sequence especially starts at 3.00

apparently..there is a version of bharatanatyam that doubles up as self defense form...

I will look it up and post it.....sometime...

there is no limit to what is allowed or not allowed in dance

EDIT:
GOT a BETTER LINK
bharatanatyam and martial arts comparison!😊 there is more..

After talking with my Mom today I felt that Shakti has a universal appeal because my young daughter also loves her. We live thousands of miles apart so if our common genes are not making us like her then it must be something else that 3 generations of us just love her. I remember eagerly waiting for TV serial Fauzi on Wednesdays just like this back in the days just to see the new ShahRukh guy. I think this kid is going far..
