Before I say anything else, this is not a Indo-Pak bashing thread, so if people are going to bash each other just for the heck of it then might as well private message a moderator and ask them to lock this thread.

Ok, I was talking to one of my Indian friends (obvious that I'm Pakistani) and I was talking to her about drama serials, and she was telling me how her mom has seen some old Pak dramas and really loved them but for some reason in India, Pak dramas aren't shown. How come the Indian gov't has banned Pakistani dramas? I really fail to understand that, they're merely a source of entertainment at the end of the day, so why aren't they allowed to be shown in India whereas Indian dramas are shown in Pakistan. Now, before anyone jumps and says well, who told you guys to show Indian dramas in Pakistan anyways? That is not the point. Entertainment is entertainment, I really don't think we need boundaries for television too now? And to be very honest, the few Indian dramas I have seen are the same typical saas bahu fights, women trying to kill each other over some guy and etc not to mention a lot of them drag forever. Most of my Indian friends don't watch these soaps themselves b/c of their typical plots. Pakistani dramas have variety in their storylines and I've met a lot of Indians who find Pak dramas a lot better than their very own. Why can't the Indian public get exposed to our dramas..why the ban? and then we chant "Aman ki Asha," btwn the two nations. Can someone explain and would you guys like to view Pak dramas in India?

Are pakistani dramas banned in India?😕 As it is we get to see so many Indo-pak dramas in real life , who wud want to see a fictitious drama ? I m sure that the "real life dramas " that we get to see are much more entertaining . they have all the ingredients of a pot boiler 😉 We get to see comedy, romance (Shoaib sania) horror (kasab) , action (cricket) thrill .... , tragedy (taliban) So who needs to se Pak soaps ? 😊 😆

lol, I guess I shouldn't have put the "dont care" option.. but it's only for those people who don't watch dramas so don't give two cents about whether they should be shown or shouldn't. Other than that, I guess no one has an answer as to why Pak channels/dramas aren't allowed in India, which is supposedly a democratic? secular? nation.

@ angie: Yes, from what I know India doesn't broadcast any Pak channel, let alone any drama..so obviously, what else do you call that besides "banning Pak channels"? And yes, when you can see all the "real life" dramas, then what's the harm in showing mere fictional stuff? that surely doesn't even make sense then. Your going to keep a 24/7 eye on your neighbor's political/social/economical situations yet can't their show sources of entertainment?

@ gengarjetty: Well, Pakistan is not a middle Eastern country so that really doesn't apply to our dramas unless it has something to do with the plot. There are a lot of good Pak dramas out there. Recently, I was seeing this Pak drama called Vasl. It's pretty good. I'm pretty sure if you google about it, you could find out more if you want? And then another one below it is called Wujood e Laraib. There both just from the top of my head as examples..but they're really good. Indian dramas are really just a drag, the few I've seen, and it amazes me how despite having the same language/culture nearabout India does not show our dramas? yet Pak does.

frankly speaking I wudnt care if Pak dramas R shown on TV or not as I hardly ever watch any TV serial. I get my kicks from watching the several news channels we have 😆The viewership of the soaps whether Pak or Indian is ultimately going to depend on the entertainment quotient whether it be telecast in India, Pak, USA or anywhere else for that matter.

I've watched some old shows when I was a kid. I can remember Guest House (Rambo rules 😆) and some of the ones with Marina Khan, and they were really good, but the new stuff doesn't look interesting or just similar to the way the Indian soaps have gone.

Funny serials just aren't as popular anymore on either side of the border.

As for why Pakistani serials/channels are banned in India, I can't say because I'm residing outside India.
But if I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it's because the countries are forever in a political state of war OR there are way too many channels in India anyways (as some one else mentioned here) OR may be it's just a technical fault and the signals are not strong enough? OR may be because there's no demand... OR no one's actually thought about it, show business is busy business, who's got the time? ...basically, there can be several different reasons but it doesn't imply that anyone has a personal vendetta against Pakistani serials 😊

Now if a lot of islamic views and ppl are associated with pak dramas then perhaps the tv channels in india feel that hindus wont want to see those dramas.

Now how are the ratings of our shows compared to urs in pakistan?

People talk about the culture/language etc being similar in India and Pak but I think that despite being similar in terms of history, both countries are very different. As a kid I think I used to follow one pakistani serial with humayun saeed in it. I can't remember the name now though.

ARY comes for free in the UK and I was flicking the channel and it seemed like a typical copy of Indian serials. The shows used to be known for being 'realistic' but I don't see that anymore..unless I happened to switch the channel at a bad time.

I heard Indian serials were banned in Pakistan, well I know zee is banned and most people still figure out a way to watch our Indian serials in Pakistan. I think Indian viewers could live without watching pakistani serials because the indian viewers connect a lot more to our shows but pakistanis seem to enjoy our serials more than their own too. I don't mean this as an insult, but just as a general observation.

I always come across comments on FB where pakistanis are complaining that zee is still banned in pak and they can't watch their favourite shows. Forget about pak, but even in a country like afghanistan, the popular star show Kyonki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi was a massive hit! If someone wants to google it then there is an article I remember reading on the BBC where it said that afghanis love our soaps so much that a lot of them started naming their kids Tulsi. 🤣

Personally, I don't care but if they were to show pak serials (which India definitely wouldn't), then I don't think the serials will be anywhere near as popular as zee, star, sony or even colors serials. Plus releasing pakistani serials on Indian tv would definitely create a lot of controversy and it isn't east to get the rights and all that kinda stuff.

Regarding your last line, due to the current political situation, you won't find many people asking for 'aman ki asha'. 😆

Just incase you think I am supporting Indian serials..I thought I'd let you know that I don't watch any Indian serials..I only watch Indian reality shows.
