Savita has changed a lot since Vandu got married to Ajit. The whole Ajit-Vandu track was developed for bringing about change in Savita. The greedy, mean and evil Savita is transformed into compassionate and kind Savita. In the beginning of the show Savita was very greedy and a liar too. She was not too mean with Archana but her greediness made her do evil things.
After the fiasco at Satyanarayan pooja she was mad with anger with all the allegations Sulochana had put on Manav and on her. She couldn't bear that Archana has left Manav and the marraige by just believing a pimp's words. And she retaliated Sulochana actions by doing charachter assassination on Archana like Sulochana did for Manav. Difference was that Sulochana had proof and believed that Manav was chracterless while Savita's action were baseless and driven by pure revenge. She didn't want Archana back in that house again and hence she told more lies and was vicious towards Archana in order to make sure that Archana cannot reconcile with Manav.
Then there was police case of torture filed against Deshmukhs and the whole family were dragged to police station and beaten up. This shook up everyone and Archana had to bear the burnt of their beating at police station. Even Manav hated Archana for that incident, how can Savita not hate her even more.
And then the unthinkable happened, Sachin died and that gave even more reasons to Savita to hate Archana. Since Manav married to Archana there has been bad omen for Deshmukhs and all problems were because of Archana according to Savita. The abusive behaviour of Savita after Archana came to live with them for 3 mths was because of all the hatred that had accumulated for Archana in Savita's mind. She held her responsible for Sachin's death for long time. Then Shravani's issue cropped up meanwhile and Savita supported Manav's decision, primarily for dowry.
Slowly when the anger and hate subsided, Archana's true nature became evident to her. Archana's corncern for Vandu and Vandu's respect and love for Archana made a mark on Savita. She has started caring for Archana finally.
