Guys we all love dance and we praise versatility in a dancer. Since the different dance styles are concerned, I feel the most controversial style is Freestyle. We have often seen in this competition that when a contestant is criticized for overdoing a particular style (generally it happens to be his/her forte), he /she comes up with Free style dancing. And the people who don't know much about dancing wonders what's the actual difference is.

Now "Freestyle dancing can apply to numerous dance types and can be defined as any style of dance where the moves are not thought out ahead and where no choreography of the moves occurs. A hip hop dancer who freestyles uses recognizable hip hop moves, and perhaps a few he or she has made up." Similarly, a contemporary/jazz free styler can use random dance steps of contemporary/jazz. But often, people land up criticizing the jazz free styler for doing his/her forte unlike his/her hip hop counterpart, because "many people always refer to both hip hop and funk dancing as freestyle dancing."

So you think that freestyle dancing act a Saviour for the one dimensional dancers??

Please correct me if you think I'm kinda misinterpreting freestyle dance.

Well Geeta ma certainly uses it to prove her one-dimensional dancer's versitality and to cover up his obvious mistakes so he doesn't get criticized by the experts on the "actual" dance.

Nice post Sash !!
No... I do not believe that Freestyle is a saviour for one dimnesional dancers.. 😳
Most of the times the masters label a dance style as in freestyle when they know that the technicality is missing badly.. 🤔 And many times freestyle is just simple.. though it includes many many styles blended and mixed.. The dancers 'til date on DID haven't shown a good Freestyle in my honest opinion ! 😳
I just believe that since this is a dancing competition of highhh high level, freestyle dancing should be something of a CHILD'S PLAY for the contestants.. and should be done very rarely.. or never !! 😳
The dancers need to concentrate on specialised styles.. and not freestyle.. atleast when they do do a freestyle.. technicalities SHOULD be exact.. solely 'cos of the level of competition.. 😳 There are many tons of dancing styles in thw world.. just a 4% of all these styles are showcased on the show.. thanks to Terence ! And inspite of so many styles.. it hurts to see some dancers doing simple Freestyle with no exact technicalities.. 😔
But, since Freestyle on DID lacks technicalities generally, as in case of Dharmesh's contemporary labelled as in Freestyle as an excuse to cover up the faults - physics!!! ..
So, for me, Freestyle isn't a saviour. 👍🏼

Ooooooo interesting post.

Ok freestyle isn't actually a STYLE of dance per se. It just gives you more freedom to be flexible in your dance choreography. However, you're still going to have pure dance movements in freestyle. For example, the "freestyle" dance Dharmesh did, very obviously HAD contemporary dance moves in it.
Just because you call it freestyle, that doesn't mean that you overlook the actual movements of a particular existing style.
Unless you INVENT your own dance moves altogether, all freestyle movements do in some way or another have the steps from other dance styles. So a person like Terrence who is trained in contemporary can obviously recognize contemporary steps in a so called freestyle dance.
So that gives Terrence full right to criticize the contemporary steps in the dance. But it's really unprofessional of choreographers like Geeta to simply ignore the criticism and call it freestyle in defense.
Freestyle or no freestyle, the dance HAD contemporary steps in it regardless.
P.S. I just used Dharmesh's dance as an example to illustrate my point.

i like this post = )

Actually ever since Dharmesh's performace, i wanted to know the difference between freestyle and contemporary. Geeta felt so proud of herself for that statement o_0
i'm not sure if she said that only to defend Dharmesh..but still whether it was freestyle or contemporary, it doesn't make up for the technical errors in his performance.
