Iqbal Khan was one of the hottest actors on TV. His female viewers had butterflies in their stomach when they saw him debut as Angad Khanna, an arrogant rockstar in Sony's Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai five years back. His popularity got him great roles in other soaps like Kavyanjali, Kahiin To Hoga and Karam Apnaa Apnaa. Just when he was well on his way to becoming a big name in the world of soaps he disappeared. His sudden exit from Karama Apna Apna made everyone believe that he had fallen out with his mentor Ekta Kapoor. Though Iqbal has maintained he quit the show for personal reasons, he has never been seen in a Balaji soap ever since.
Unlike Rajeev Khandelwal, who also famously fell out with Ekta, Iqbal has not made any great comeback on TV.
He did appear as the dashing Air Force officer Abhimanyu Adhikari in Star One's Chhoona Hai Aasmaan, but made a quick exit once again. Then in 2008 he re-entered soap land in Waaris on Zee TV. But, after a 64-episode run, the show got cancelled due to the three-week long telly strike last year.
Does this mean we don't get to see Iqbal ever again on screen? Fortunately he hasn't quit acting for good.
"The lil' break was a deliberate effort," he says. Considering the fact that his tiny break has stretched into years it's nice to know that fans can look forward to seeing him back on screen pretty soon. He is reluctant to give out any details as things are yet to be finalised, but says, "By February you will be able to get a better picture. Inshallah!"
