There is a reason why people feel happier progressively as they make more money... Life becomes less tedious when you have a cook and a maid, a chaffeur, don't have to travel in coach and can afford to buy itoys.

Yes wealth basically makes us dependent on others for almost everything. A balance is what is required I think.
Some people are thrifty and do not spend much money on themselves but yet are very generous with others.
