Okay, so we all want to see the dancers to be versatile - but I think at times some of the dance forms are not as fun watching as others. When one tries to dance from different ethnic backgrounds, the audience may not necessarily connect with the contestant.
Geeta has tried various forms of dancing on DID, but I think the problem is, the dance did not have much to offer the viewers as in pleasure to watch.
I myself have always wondered why has there not been an Tanzanian (East African) dancing on DID, but than again will the audience appreciate this form of dance.
What do you guys have to say about different forms of dance that are probably very hard to attempt but may not be pleasing for viewers.

I kinda agree with you on versatility, people say tht it is important, but how much will they like the same contestants doin something diff..
I have always wanted african contemporary dance ( like princess and frog frm SYTYCD) but again depends on the audience if they'll like it..
DID we have seen people not liking and enjoying classical acts, so mentors are scared to make their contestants do it, cauz audience dun like it..
I think versatility here only means hip hop, contemporary and bollywood.. :P
good post!

I agree with you Z..
Not all dance forms are appreciated by people in India.. For example - if we take Hip-hop(+ the sub-genra) and contemporary(+ sub-genra) .. I don't think the Indian audience would view the two dances in the same way.. both being practically flawlessly performed by the dancer..!!
I feel that though Hip-hop has been like introduced years ago(maybe some 20 years ago in the high-societies) .. it is very well appreciated. It's eye-appealing to the viewer and can be loved and understood by any age-group.. the old and the kids..
While, Contemprary it is difficult to percieve by all the age-groups.. the kids find it wierd and get bored, while the old might find the dancer to be just "jumping around".. Trust me, my grandma would always say that !!! Contemporary is something that needs to be understood by a viewer with some maturity.. And it's one powerful, complicated, delicate dance form.. Every single move counts in the dance.. A viewer need to understand even a slightest move of a hand.. ! So much of feel, emotion "flows" through the body of a dancer doing this.. (Hope I'm not sounding wierd.. LOL)
And contemporary is something not from India.. it's been introduced very very lately.. and so, obviously.. it wouldn't be appealing to our Indian audiance..
Soo.. I don't even think that we can consider dance forms from different cultural backgrounds..

I agree with Angel - not all dance forms from other cultures will be accepted by Indian viewers, esp African dance forms. It would be very hard for our audience to decipher the theme of those... Contemporary and Latin dance forms are gaining more popularity now, due to several dance reality shows, and SYTYCD show also being popular in India now. Hip-hop, break, etc were already popular - thanks to MJ videos and several Hollywood bands. But there are so many different dance forms in our culture too, and I would love to see a bunch of regional folk dance forms and the like on DID...

Exactly.. I'm a living example..!! 😛 I just hope dance forms that are atleast international(quite many) start to get introduced in India.. and I hope there are some dance academies opened here, teaching all the possible dance forms.. from Indian to Western Classics.. 😍
I just see that to be happening in like 5-7 years.. hopefully !

Problem with being Versatile is that some people do not want you to EVER do the style you are trained in.
