@ Topic creator - Its sad that the janta doesn't recognize talent in those that do classical numbers! That's why we've seen the elimination of the two best classical dancers on the show!

We NRIs are so afraid of losing our Indian heritage-Culture...We try to hold on to it as much and tight as we can...We pick up local culture where we reside to learn some of their ways at the same time not forget our roots..
Where I am we have mandir, Gurdwara, Jain temple, Bal vihar...lil Kids attend balvihar each sunday morning..local temple teaches different language...
It is a good thing and I am proud of us NRIs...This is why I am so proud of Tashu for representing US....And that is not the only reason why I am proud...She definitely is very good at what she does...I still remember her audition performance...and B-W finale dance...
Young ones in India want to be westerners and are not worried about carrying their own culture while NRIs pick up local culture and try holding on to their own...My 2 cents..

Very well said 👏

My cousins in India are like DYING to come to america.
They cut their hair and everything (they were sardars) because it was "cooler."
Well, my brother nor my dad are sardars so i dont know how hard it is to keep your hair...But my cousin that lives in Canada just recently grew out his hair to become a sardar. Everyone was shocked that a canadian kid who has lived in Canada all his life would want to grow out his hair.
Im pretty proud of him myself 😛

I wish that the people in India would realize that life out here in America/Canada or abroad anywhere, is NOT as easy at it seems. Sure...we get 24/7 electricity (if you pay the bills) but what about your life? In India, you can have maid's to do your housework and sit inside and do nothing all day. HERE, you have to work to live. My Bhabhi recently came to America with her two little twins. Can you believe that she rarely bathed her kids? Or anything for that matter! She had a nanny/maid that took care of them. And now she's about ready to break down from all the work she has to do. Cook the food, clean the house, take care of those evil kids(LOL), etc. Im sure that pretty soon she'll have to start working soon because of financial issues.

My mom is always like " i wish i had gotten married to someone that lived in India...life would have been easier."

Haha to us american kids, life may not be as hard as for someone who just came from india. But its cause we're used to it. If i had to move to India, i would die 😆.
As long as your vacationing, its alright. But if i had to stay there, it'd be too much 😳

^^My cousin would anytime trade her Paneer for Domino's Pizza and I could kill for Paneer, anyday 😳. I grew up in India and moved to US few years back for studies. I used to take everything in India for granted:-the food, festival, traditions, music and dance. I love my Indian roots and strive to keep up with the tradition. But living abroad made me appreciate and respect India much more than what I would have if I continued to live there. 😊 . Thats why I feel proud if anyone on DID does a classical dance and thats why I have loved Vrushali, Tashu and Kruti on DID.. 😳

LOL, you guys are talking about India abroad now!! Yes, I have noticed the same thing with my folks back home - they think I am way too conservative than them!! They used to say I am too forward thinking for an Indian girl while I was a high school girl in India!! Now they are saying I am orthodox and they are broad minded!! LOL... They expected me to change drastically once I left India to study overseas, and since I did my undergrad onwards outside India, they expected me to be "westernized" in no time!! They expected me to return in jeans and top, when I landed there in a typical salwar!!! LOL... And some of my relatives started talking to me in English, thinking I have forgotten Malayalam!! I was like - are you nuts or what?! How can I forget my lingo like that!! I also feel that people in the US, UK, Canada and all have kept the culture and values more than many folks in India now... We still celebrate all the festivals here in the same traditional way while they dont have all that back home now...
