Happy.....all it had been was confusion. Whenever he tried to ask her something, she had never given him a straight answer. Whenever he had tried to tell her something, she had misunderstood him. Whenever they had been at a point where they were ready to listen to each other Armaan had barged in. His hands fisted at his name but he calmed himself down, not wanting to go down that lane.

Angry Atul gets up, knocking his chair down and getting himself ready to punch his infuriating boss.🤣 OMG, Would loved to see this !

Nikki runs out, her tears blinding her and her anger rising by the second. Abhimanyu, her Abhi had done this to her. She couldn't believe it. She was furious; she wiped away her tears angrily and wished that she was somewhere but in Sanjeevani. Sanjeevani was her safe haven but not anymore. Thanks to Abhimanyu Modi's interfering ways.

How dare he meddle in her life, she fumed. Unseeing she walks right into Gaurav who holds her by her upper arms and straightens her.

"Nikita" he bends down to look at her but Nikki lowers her face so he can't see her tears.

"S….Sorry" she apologizes for banging into him and tries to shrug out of his grasp. He gentles his hold considerably but doesn't leave her.

"You are crying" he figures out from her weepy voice and lifts her face to look into it and is taken aback at her red eyes and the expression of defiance in them.

"What happened?" he asks leaving her.

"Nothing" she replies wiping her tears and walking away.

"You are my patient Nikita…..this worries me…..maybe it will help to talk" he tells her, gentling his voice but Nikki is in no mood to listen.

"Nothing will help me….I don't need any help…..I just don't need anyone….why can't you all leave me in peace" Nikki's voice rises with each short sentence and Guarav is astounded at her outburst.

"Dr. Nikita Malhotra….behave yourself…..this is no way to talk to your senior" Abhimanyu's authoritative voice cuts her rant. Incensed by his authoritative way of speaking, Nikki turns to Abhimanyu , her eyes flashing fire, "You" she points at him, "stay away from me and don't go around preaching….first you learn how to mind your own business…Dr. Abhimanyu Modi……head of Sanjeevani" she mocks, "you should know when not to overstep your bounds" her voice venomous.

"Nikita….what is your problem?" Abhimanyu asks, infuriated at her way of talking.

"What is yours?" she throws back at him. Gaurav watches both of them fighting and is unable to fathom the reason for Nikki's unreasonable outburst.

"Nikita….please calm down" he steps towards her, worried about her and sure that if she continued this way, she would get sick.

Turning at the sound of Gaurav's voice, Nikki looks at him and the soft expression on his face and closes her eyes to control her anger. He steps near her, putting an arm gingerly on her shoulder and she goes into his embrace. Abhimanyu's eyes narrow but when he sees her shaking with tears, he goes near Gaurav and Nikki.

"Nikki….…listen to me" Abhimanyu softens his tone and tries to touch the upset girl, who flinches at his touch. Nikki looks up at Gaurav with pleading eyes, "Please tell him to go away….…please" she refuses to look at Abhimanyu.

Gaurav looks at Abhimanyu who nods his head. "Fine…..do what you want to….I forgot….how you simply refuse to listen …to anything" and he turns on his heels and walks back into his office.

As soon as Abhimanyu walks away, Nikki gets out of Gaurav's embrace and looks at him shyly and remorsefully. "I am very sorry Gaurav….I didn't mean to shout at you like that….I …I am not thinking straight…..and thank you for your help" she says, twisting her hands uncomfortably in front of her.

"It's ok Nikita…..don't worry about that…..but please tell me why you are so upset and angry with Abhimanyu?" Gaurav asks her.

"Nothing" she says shaking her head.

"It is something and it is stressing you out…..you are much better but I am worried that ….did you remember anything unpleasant?' Gaurav asks, assuming that to be the case.

"No…..I….it has nothing to do with my remembering anything…..but I did remember something sometime ago….it just came out of my mouth …I remembered meeting Armaan for the first time at Sanjeevani" she tells him.

"Would you like to discuss that?" he asks her and she refuses, "I …please…later…I just need to be alone now" he nods his understanding but asks her to follow him to his cabin.

She obliges and there he gives her some water and tells her that such stress is not good for her. She assures him that she is fine and wanders out to the basketball court.

She sits in a corner, thinking about her past and sobs quietly.

"Why did you do this Abhi" she asks no one in particular, her pain flowing through her tears. She cries for a while when she feels a soft touch on her shoulder. She quickly wipes her tears and looks up to see Armaan sitting next to her.

"Armaan" she takes his name and launches in his arms, "why did he do this to me….why…why did he call them here….why?" she starts blabbering and the tears she had wiped starts slipping again.

"Shhhh….Nikki….stop crying" he tries to calm his friend, whose pain he understood so well.

"He got her too….to rub her in my face" she tells him vehemently.

"Nikki….stop…..it's Ok….I am there with you…..you will be fine" Armaan tells her and Nikki nods.

"I will tell them to go back" she tells him decidedly.

"You need them Nikki" Abhimanyu's voice tells her gently and she stands up abruptly. Both Armaan and Abhi's arms go out instinctively to avoid her from slipping. She swats Abhimanyu's arm away and moves towards Armaan.

Abhi's eyes fill with pain. He did not understand why she was so mad at him. He had tried to do his best, take care of her but she apparently did not see it like that. She had chosen first Gaurav and now Armaan to share her pain. She was treating him like a stranger. No…stranger was a kind word. She was treating him like an enemy and every action of hers was aimed at his heart.

"Who are you to decide what I need…who are you?" She asks her rationality flying out of the window at seeing him there.

"Nikki…please….he doesn't know" Armaan tries to calm her down, rubbing her back and Nikki shakes her head.

"He doesn't know but he thinks he can interfere?" She asks Armaan looking at Abhimanyu, ready to pounce on him at any moment.

"Nikki…interfere? What have I done? You are not ready to listen…. but are running like I have the plague?" he asks, his patience running out.

"Dr. Modi….…you are the plague" she tells him hotly and Abhimanyu's patience snaps, "every time you come near me you spoil everything….. you are the bane of my life" she says and Abhimanyu closes the distance between them, holding her by her arms.

Shaking her he asks, "Are you done or have some more words left? Please don't keep them inside….let them out too…..this plague would like to know more about how worthless he has made your life" he tells her bitterly, hardly able to control his anger but he does not raise his voice at her.

She melts into his arms crying hysterically. Armaan is tempted to explain the situation to Abhimanyu but for the first time he decides to step away from them both. Nikki needed his help. He would provide as much support as she needed but this time, she would have to deal with Abhimanyu herself. Both of them needed to understand each other. That was clearly visible to him. He turns and leaves his friend in the arms he knew were strong enough to keep her safe from every problem life was going to throw at her.

Walking out, Armaan had a slight smile on his face. He should have done this a long time ago but he was habituated to take care of Nikki. It was not easy to leave her but he had done it.

"Abhimanyu Modi…..you better take care of her or I know where to find you" he mumbles walking away, turning only once to see his friend crying and the man in whose arms she was weeping, standing like a solid wall of love, trying to wipe away her tears. He did not let go of her when she fell on her knees but sat beside her, holding her.

"Sorry to have tried to take your Abhi away Nikki….but now…this time…..he won't let you go" Armaan walks into Sanjeevani to find the reason of Nikki's hysterical outburst.

"Nikki…please….tell me…what did I do so wrong…please" Abhimanyu asks the girl crying hard in his arms.

"Why did you call them here?" Nikki hiccups her question between her tears.

"Nikki…you need them" He replies honestly.

"Why? I have you…I have Armaan…..all my other friends….why would I need them" she asks clutching his shirt and looking questioningly into his eyes.

"Nikki…they are your parents" he reminds her.

"I know that Abhi….but they forgot a long time ago that they have a daughter…..I don't want to remember them either" she pours her heart out to him.

"Shhhh….Nikki don't talk like this about them" Abhimanyu places a finger on his lips and Nikki's tears overflow at his intimate loving gesture.

"Abhi….you don't know how hard I have worked to make a place for myself in this world…..till today only Armaan knew how I have dealt with whatever those people dished out to me…..I don't need them" she tells him, tired of fighting the pain she had hidden for so long at the corner of her heart.

"Nikki…..what are you talking about?" Abhimanyu asks confused. He remembered an emotional Nikki during the Holi night. From what she had let on, he had figured that she missed her parents a lot, but here she was running away from them.

"What I am trying to tell you is …please make them go away….please…please" she begs clutching his shirt.

"Nikki….will you tell me why?" he asks her in a very soft voice, cupping her face lovingly.

"They divorced when I was ten years old Abhimanyu…..Dad left without any intimation, telling my mother that he didn't need the both of us…..why would he ….he thinks my mother cheated on him and that Pari is his daughter whereas I am a mistake" she tells him haltingly and Abhimanyu can't believe what he is hearing.

He envelopes her in a hug, closing his eyes and regretting the phone call he had made to her parents. Unknowingly, he had presented all the memories she had been fighting with for so long right in her face. He knew her parents were divorced but never in a million years could he have guessed that the beautiful woman in his arms was the reason for their divorce.

"Nikki ….your mother?" he questions her.

"She is no better……she told me that I was the reason my dad left her….I had spoilt her figure and I stopped all her future prospects…..she put me in a hostel and thought that sending money would be the answer…..she married a rich man….I don't have any idea why they even came here and why you think I need them" Nikki concludes.

"Nikki….you have just regained your ability to walk…..you still need rest and are going to be discharged soon…..I thought family is where you would get ample care….so I called them" he tells her his simple reason.

"Will you make them go away?" she asks him hopefully.

"At least meet them once…..they have come all the way to meet you…..maybe they have changed?" he tries to reason with her.

"Abhi please" she requests him.

"Nikki…just once…please…I will be there …right beside you…promise….. and if you are uncomfortable….I will ask them to leave…OK" he explains patiently and after a few minutes Nikki agrees.

She follows him inside, holding his hand in a vice like grip. She did not want to meet them but she understood Abhimanyu's care. She stopped to freshen herself and then walked into Abhi's office with him.

Her parents got up when they saw her enter but instead of going near them, Nikki clasped Abhimanyu's hand tightly. He gently pushed her forward, propelling her towards her parents.

Raj Malhotra, her father was a tall distinguished looking gentleman with salt and pepper hair. He had an air of authority around him and Nikki shared no apparent features with him.

Nandita Malhotra nee Sabharwal, her mother on the other hand was a beautiful petite lady and Nikki was a spitting image of her. Her dark hair was shoulder length and she had beautiful dimples when she smiled.

Pari Malhotra, the girl standing besides Raj Malhotra was a spitting image of her father.

"Nikita" her mother addressed her and opened her arms.

"Hi Mamma" Nikita greeted her and hesitatingly accepted her embrace.

"Nikita…how are you?" her father asks her sternly not attempting to make any physical contact with his daughter.

"Fine" she replies shortly and Abhimanyu notices her lack of address towards her father.

"You wrecked your car with your careless driving……how injured are you…..you should have informed us" her father tells her off and Abhimanyu goes and stands besides her.

"She almost died" he replies for her.

"Nikki" her mother hugs her, her eyes tearing up."I am fine Mamma" Nikki tells her "don't worry….at this hospital they take good care of me" she tells her looking at Abhimanyu with anguished eyes. He gently squeezes her hand.

"I am here now…..you come to Delhi with me" her mother comes forward, taking her hands in hers and Nikki's panicked gaze flies to Abhimanyu's who is a little taken aback at this sudden request.

"She….she needs to be here Mrs. Sabharwal" he tells her mother, "her doctors are here and we would not encourage any change in environment for her condition" he tells her frankly not ready to let Nikki leave after what she had told him. He was not letting his stupid mistake cost her.

"Dr. Modi….Delhi has good doctors too….I know of many and then she will have family there" her mother tells him and Nikki disagrees with her.

"I want to stay here mamma…..I have work here…..I am fine…really" she assures her mother not ready to leave Sanjeevani at any cost.

There is a knock on the door and Armaan walks in. Looking at him, Nikki's parents are shocked.

"Armaan" they call his name together and he goes and hugs both her parents.

"Hi Aunty….Hi Uncle" he greets them.

"What are you doing here?" Raj asks him and Abhimanyu sees the change in his demeanor. He was nicer to the young doctor who had entered.

"I am with Nikki here……interning" he gives her half a hug and stands next to her.

Standing between the two men, who were standing with her like a wall shielding her from her parents, she stops panicking. She sighs in relief as she knew that neither of them would let her go anywhere away from them.

"You didn't tell us Armaan" Nandita asks him, her tone accusatory.

"Aunty…..she is much better and it was her decision" he tries to soften the blow of the truth but understands that there was no way to save Nikki other than the truth.

"Oh her decisions….look where they land her…..you can't drive a car properly?" her father mocks her and Abhimanyu feels her tense beside him.

"Sir….accidents do happen…..anyways….I guess you have met her….you would like to leave….she needs to go and rest" he tries to wrangle Nikki out of the sticky situation he had put her in.

"Rest….she looks fine to me" Raj continues, coming closer to Nikki he looks at her closely and then says, "You are not getting another car…..what you wrecked was really expensive" and Abhimanyu can't believe what he was hearing. This was the reason Nikki was so upset at him. Her father did not behave like her life mattered to him at all. A car….he was worried about a car?

"I paid for the insurance…..maybe they will pay back for what it was worth" Nikki replies back, "Anyways it was second hand wasn't it….your favorite daughter's reject" she can't help putting that in.

"Nikita….behave yourself and learn how to talk" her father gets angry at her and Nikki raises her chin in defiance.

"What did I say wrong Mr. Malhotra……as far as learning to talk…..I learnt on my own and have never had a problem so far….if you don't like it…..don't talk to me" she replies back and at this Abhimanyu decides to step in.

"Nikki….you should rest…..Armaan please take her to the ward" he tells Armaan and he takes Nikki who is more than happy to leave with him.

Pari, who had been listening to everything quietly excuses herself and walks out of Abhimanyu's cabin. She walks fast to catch up with Nikki and Armaan.

"Nikita Di" she calls softly to her step-sister and Nikki freezes.

Di….no one had ever addressed her like that. She had forever hated the person who was addressing her like a sister. The softness in her voice was unexpected. Nikki turned around slowly, looking at the girl who was standing in front of her. She was tall and slim and looked nothing like her. Still if a stranger looked at the two beautiful girls standing together, they had an unmistakable resemblance.

"What?" Nikki asks shortly, at a loss to understand why Pari wanted to talk to her.

"Di….may I talk to you for a minute…please" she asks, twisting her hands, just like Nikki was want to do every time she was nervous.

"Is there anything to talk about?" Nikki asks, not ready to let go of her anger. She had stored it for so long at the corner of her heart, she was not about to let it go in a second, just because she had decided to talk nicely to her.

"A lot…you are my sister…a sister I always knew about but never had the pleasure to meet" Pari replies, smiling a little hesitantly.

"Your father wouldn't like that Miss Pari" Nikki tells her tartly, bringing the man she hated between them.

"Dr. Pari…..just like you…..and I don't care what he thinks…I want to talk to you …please" Nikki is taken aback by her response.

"Doctor?" she asks.

"Yes….just like you….I have always been asked to be just like you" Pari replies a little sadly and Nikki shakes her head. So, Raj Malhotra wasn't happy with this daughter either…..good…he deserved that.

"She needs to rest Pari" Armaan steps in; giving Nikki an excuse but Nikki doesn't take it. She was ready to talk to the girl who was her sister.

"OK Pari…lets go….if you have the time….you can come to my ward" Nikki tells her and she agrees.

The three are walking towards the ward when they see Gaurav coming towards them. Looking at them a huge grin breaks on his face.

"Nikki , Armaan…Hey….and look who decided to visit me…..Dr. Pari Malhotra" and hugs the girl walking next to Nikki, shocking Armaan and Nikki out of their wits.
