Midnight's Children's silver screen adaptation is all set to have a stellar cast.
Shabana Azmi, Seema Biswas and Rani Mukerji, Vidya Balan is likely to join the cast if she and Rani bury their rivalry.
Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan are thought to have fallen out over Pradeep Sarkar's Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. Vidya Balan owes her Bollywood career to Pardeep Sarkar who launched her in Parineeta. But for his second film, he cast Rani Mukerji and Konkona Sen Sharma as sisters, ignoring Vidya Balan and this upset her.
Given this history, it is believed that they don't want to play sisters on screen. A source says, 'Vidya might still be upset about LCMD and Rani doesn't like to share screen space with a lot of people. Nandita Das, Shabana Azmi and Seema Biswas are in another league altogether but Vidya is her contemporary. It would be best if they buried the hatchet and worked together because they both are phenomenal actors and this film will give them roles-of-a-lifetime. They both want to be part of the film because it is an international project with strong female characters.'
Vidya Balan said, 'I would love to work with Deepa Mehta. We were supposed to do Stella earlier but it did not work but it would be great to work with her.'
Deepa Mehta is not aware of the rivalry between them. She said, 'They both are phenomenal and would make the perfect sisters. I would love to cast them together.'
