Sanjay Dutt wants to wrap up Munnabhai Part 3

The trailer and stills of Munnabhai Chale Amerika released almost two years ago. The film, which is the third in the Munnabhai series, has Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi going west with their misadventures. Lage Raho Munnabhai, the second instalment, did wonders at the Box Office, after which the third film was announced. The promos of Munnabhai Chale Amrika had audiences eagerly anticipating the release of the film; however, several situations delayed shooting for an indefinite period of time.

While the makers of the film have stated that the production of the film was to start this year, it was because of Sanjay Dutt's arrest regarding the possession of illegal arms in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts that held up the shoot of the film. A source elaborates, "Because of Sanjay's arrest, his passport was confiscated and he wasn't granted permission to shoot in the States. Due to this, the entire schedule was called off. Whenever Vidhu tried to schedule the shoot again, some or the other thing regarding his arrest sprang up. That's when Vidhu decided to postpone the film; he and Raju soon dived headfirst into their next project together, that being the Aamir Khan-starrer 3 Idiots."

Arshad Warsi too confirmed the news, saying, "Munnabhai Chale Amerika will go on the floors this year, and we'll start shooting then onwards," He will be reprising his role as Circuit in the movie, and further added that everything, including the script, is ready for the film. The source further adds, "Sanjay is hell-bent on starting work on Munnabhai Chale Amerika as, after the shooting of Anees Bazmee's No Problem, the actor has dates that can fit in the schedule of the Hirani film. Also, after the stupendous success of 3 Idiots, Sanjay is longing to work with Raju again. Considering the fact that all his upcoming films are multi-starrers, it is always in Raju's films that he's the star of the show."

When we spoke to Rajkumar Hirani about the film's progress, he said, "Yes, we have been a little slack, but now that 3 Idiots is out, we will soon complete MCA, and Sanjay has been most willing to shoot it soon enough."

As long as Munnabhai's back, that's all that matters to us!
