LOL here in america no one identifies themselves as "Americans." Maybe to people outside of America we call ourselves Americans but not within America.

We all state our ethnicity...if someone asks me what i am, i say "indian" and that goes for everyone. White people identify themselves as white and black people identify themself as black, etc.

well, that's because theoretically, America is not a country. It is a melting pot of different people of different origins coming together to function together. I mean, there is no originalty in Americans. Even the white people there are either Italian, German, British etc.. not to forget the African-Americans and Asian-Americans and Indian-Americans and Hispanics. All the natives are locked up in the northern part like in North Dakota, South Dakota in reservations.

There's no reason for anyone to have to claim which country they're "loyal" to just because they live in one country and parents are from one country. & i agree totally with this person:

look theres a vast difference between "loving" a country and being "patriotic" towards a country....
look i m born in india and brought up in india which makes me a pure indian........i may love 8898978 other countries but im "patriotically loyal" towards only india.
same way, u may love two or more nations at the same time but u can be patriotic towards only one. u can salute the flag of only one, sing the anthem of only one...which country is it whose flag u hold close to ur soul? thats the main point of my debate

Well, if this answers your question, I pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america :)

But if there does happen to be a war, i'd be neutral.
And if had to choose a side, i'd look at both situations...like why'd the war start & all that.

hey people im back wid a bang....i have a new question for the day:

do u think second-generation NRIs...or the children of people brought up in foreign countries should identify themselves as indian or that nationality where they r from???
i am a regular on this I-F .and it surprises me to see how many people we have from foreign countries on the serial discussion forums!!!! i have often wondered: why do these people bother about indian serials so much in the US or UK..........they r brought up there....they have learned to identify themselves as american/ british from birth..........then why this craze regarding indian serials which portray a lifestyle which those NRIs most possibly wont be able to even identify with???????/ this is something that has always boggled my mind when i came to if.
so my question is: do PIA (People of Indian Origin) identify themselves as indians or otherwise when asked?????

No generally they don't do. This is one point where Indian NRIs are radically different from their Chinese counterparts. I have seen Chinese considering them proud Chinese people wherever they go.
First thing an Indian NRI complaints on visiting India is about the poor roads, poverty, lack of infrastructure etc. I personally feel this view point must change. Contributing intead of complaining can do a lot.

NRIs should not care about india as india's welfare dos not affect them.

2nd generation NRIs are not really indians btw
