Abhira : The self-respect queen
Sadly, lost the obsessive compulsive urge to watch... ( posted as a new thread but moved here because apparently this thread discusses the same things... i dont agree... can i disagree?)
I'll try to catalogue here what I think has ruined it for me... the intention is not to spoil it for anyone else (I eagerly await your trying to convince me otherwise Dipa... not just because you are exceptionally accepting of all KB foibles but also because, like me, you simply like that sorta thing 😉)
The unsubstantiated anomalies in characterisation
I'm not going to again cite the sloppy almost negligent treatment of the Abhi-Simi dynamic and the concurrent botching-up of Abhi's character. Enough has been said on the subject, and I maintain it.
However the abrupt, completely inexplicable change in Anita's character is equally irksome ... among other things a life-long bond with a loving brother does not go to the dogs over one incident... she had us thinking she actually understood him, remember the conversation with Anuj at her rukhsati... All of a sudden he's enemy number one... over what again???
As is Anuj's change from a spineless fool to a treacherous serpent (an allusion to biblical references; I'm not trying to slander the poor reptiles) ... while I believe he lacks any strength of character (and yes Sethiji, like it or not you are to blame... I do hate that "humari hi parvarish mein kuch kami reh gayi hogee" oft-repeated excuse widely offered in the Indian media... well, duh!!) There was a hint of a conscience... as was reasonably clear from his conversation with Simi's vis a vis his guilt and gratitude on the night of her returned baraat.
Weakness of the plot
As to why Anita and Anuj need the money is beyond me... while the home-ware had to be returned I'm sure any cash would have been much appreciated and enjoyed, the presence of which need never have been disclosed to Mr Sethi. Why was it, again, that Anita said no to Mr Tarneja's Mauritius (or was it Singapore) offer?
I'm alsosceptical of the extent of Anuj's gullibility and willingness to steal from his own father... I have an aversion to this over-simplistic rendering of these characters as dark and iniquitous in one clumsy stroke ... in life it's almost invariably events rather than people that are indisputably awful. I'm saying the same events (Anuj leaving the Sethi household) could have been brought about without creating Indian-TV like villains. I'm left with a bad taste in my mouth and not just by Anita change in clothes and hair.
And The little things that are irritating me (and it's the little things that really count don't they)
The unnecessarily and overly melodramatic bank scene... The fact that Mr Sethi has been robbed of his life-times saving was a poignant and unfortunate event. It did not need the grand spectacle and over-the-top shoving and pushing to ram it home. The stepping on the glasses took the cake! Come now, which bank throws out a customer like that. Highly unlikely and stroppy!
The dropping of the halwa tray by Manjuji... just downright irritating... I have not once in my life done that... or seen anyone do it! Enlighten me if I'm missing out on one of life's great dramatic pleasures...but I find it is just another run-of-the-mill manoeuvre that insults my intelligence... and detracts from the tragedy of the scene! As did her semi-fainting from another scene ... did she faint...did she not?
In all the racket... (the Simi Anuj dynamic was truly well-handled... and the acting has been par excellence that has to be said!) why did no one ask for the money to be returned??? Milli perhaps? How can they let him walk away with it all??? I'm thinking it's a substantial amount... Retirement funds n all that!
As for Abhi! Welcome back dude... where've you been!! Long time ...no see!!
I would've liked something a little more substantial than "tum mujhey nahi jaantay"...when he uttered those words I was like yeah that'll make him run to the shop n open it personally!....as convincing as Neil's portrayal was ( the stares are back! And I loved his response to the Bhalla's provoking words! Not the bat of an eyelid... yet the freeze! RB, btw, I think is a master craftsman!! exceptional! And his dialogues were extremely well-written! I'm afraid I almost like him...hahaha ) I can't help thinking now what will this 22 yr old do? (yup ageist me!) He's a mere babe! Ah well, he does know a certain N.S. Dagur rather well... highly influential in regional politics and all that! (that was tongue in check... couldn't find a suitable smiley)
Is it just me or do men on this show shed a lot of tears? Don't get me wrong... I totally get the yummy-ness of man tears... the contrast of strength and sensitivity and all that... completely up my ally... but isn't that precisely because of the rarity of the event... KB has me running in the opposite direction!
And while we're on the subject... let's talk about Simi's bawling... I hate to sound insensitive, I can appreciate her pain ...maybe it's the English bit in me that finds her howling terribly unsightly ... watching her do that (and she's done it repeatedly hasn't she; make that funny sort of face and those infantile noises ) my reflex is to excuse myself and leave with a "Pardon my barging in ...I'll return when you're done"... much like I'd do if I find someone in the middle of an act when I open the door to the loo! I think it needs a separate room much like many other activities that are better done in isolation! Weeping can be an exceedingly feminine thing, no?... No wonder Abhi keeps telling her to stop...
Bottom line... it's all kinda yeah whatever now for me and I doubt it can climb all the way back up in my mind...

Am I alone in feeling that gone are the days when making time for KB online video updates, as soon as they were made available, and the ensuing verbal (ok type-written) diarrhoea was a priority... currently I'm at... okay so they're there , they can wait till after I'm done with all the jobs at hand... and I can foresee it getting to... I can live with being a week behind what s being aired in India ... in the very near future. Do the red downward arrows at the top of the page here suggest that I have company!11AM my time is when the videos get published and i still make time for it, but tdy i must confess i hit the forward button a few times

i dont think mr. sethi is to blame for this, is manju to b blamed for neetu getting knocked up since she has a go at the girls every time sumthin goes wrong. the parvarsih dialog is just that, a dialog uttered by 99% parents. the child doesnt get good grades......... parvarsih mein kami, doesnt potty train on time........... again parvarish, turns out to b a weasel like anuj.......... parvarish. its nature and nurture.......... else 2 sibs brought up by the same parents under the same circumstances wud not turn out so different.
no offence intended but i have a problem with ppl behaving like complete a-h***s then going on oprah and blaming their parents.

i agree completely hence the liberal use of fwd button today

its much more realistic if they find a flat surface and keep the stoopid tray down coz thats what actually happens

Bottom line... it's all kinda yeah whatever now for me and I doubt it can climb all the way back up in my mind...
