I'll try and post regularly I promise. Happy now all?
Incidentally, this is rather a random question, but does anyone know the date of the epi when motiben stripped Santu so cruelly, and the one in which DM first gets a glimpse of he? Properly I mean, and not just from the side under the gunghat.

So, I posted a thread earlier discussing my desire to see DM acknowledge his past bad behaviour with Santu and to discover Motibens hand in Santu's suffering. This gave me an idea for a SanRaj moment. So here it is.

To Forgive and to Forget

Before the actual scene begins, I want you all to assume that Taru has been particularly mean and nasty to Champakali one day. And finally Champu's resolve breaks and she can't take it anymore. Thus in an outburst she gives Taru a piece of her mind. Reminding her of all the wrongs she has ever been done. Santu is there, and she is trying to stop Champu, but our girl Champu is having none of it today. Now that she's opened her mouth, she'll say all there is to say and be damned. She also mentions everything Taru ever did to Santu and in doing so recounts the incident where she had forced Champu to strip-search Santu in the store-room for the lost earrings. Taru retorts it was no less than she deserved.

Hearing the commotion the entire family has come out to the courtyard, including DM. The camera pans to a maha mad DM, who looks like he is about to skin someone, stick a prong up them and roast them over a spit-fire!

Everyone is looking at Taru, Champu and Santu in the middle of the courtyard in utter shock and disbelief. And these three in return are looking just as shocked, with Taru looking just a tad more afraid than the others.

DM says nothing at first. Then slowly he makes his way towards them, stopping several feet short. He looks from one to the other. Taru tries to speak.

'Naanka yeh'. But DM stops her with one swift flick of his open palm. Taru ki bolti band!

Then he turns to Champu and asks her what she was saying before. Champu although, now past the point of caring, is still somewhat shaken at being caught unawares like this.

'Malik woh....woh...' She is unable to progress beyond these few words. Her mind is in turmoil. What should she do? DM asks her again, and this time tells her to speak without fear. He has heard enough, but he wants to make sure that he has heard correctly. Champu once again narrates how nasty and mean Taru is.

'But Malik I could take everything she did to me, but what she did to malkin...' She stops abruptly. Telling everyone about Taru's behaviour towards her was one thing. But telling them about her behaviour towards the malkin of the house was quite another. She looks at Santu, who discreetly shakes her head asking Champu not to say anything. DM has seen her.

'Champakali. You know that no relation is above my law. If someone has done something wrong, then that wrong must be righted and the individual held to account. And it doesn't matter whether it is my son, my daughter, my wife or my sister! Now tell me what you have to tell me'.

Champu takes a deep breath.

'Malik, where do I start? From the day Malkin stepped into this house she has faced all manner of torture from benba. I know that malkins presence in the house was a sore subject for everyone. But just because someone is not wanted, does that mean we can treat them any way we want? She was many things to many people, but she was never even treated like a person let alone a sister, or a mother or a wife'. When she said this DM visibly flinched but said nothing. Champu also looked worried, but she had come to far now to go back. Santu all the while stood shaking her head with tears streaming down her face.

'Akhir insaniyat to kuch cheez hai?'

Champakali went on to recount the various times that Taru had oppressed Santu. She told of the time Taru had hit (yanked?) santu by the ears on the day DM went to collect his award from Saumil bhai. DM remembers Santu in the car on the journey there wiping blood from her ears. She tells of the fact that on the same day Taru had knowingly hidden Subhadra's jewels in the clothes and told her to give them to Santu to wear. And how she was threatened not to reveal this and to me everyone think that Santu herself had taken these things.

DM flashes back to the moment when he yells at Santu for wearing Subhi's things and grips her so hard that he leaves marks on her arms.

She reveals the day that Taru beat Santu in the courtyard and didn't stop even when Ba and Bapuji begged her to. DM listens to all this in complete silence. When Champu stops he says to her 'aur?'

'Aur Malik...She was the one who practically forced malkin to divorce you the first time saying that it was in everyone's best interest and promising her that Hiten bhai would marry Khemi'. Champu looks at Taru. Taru doesn't know whether to look at her or DM. For the first time in her life Taru is completely and utterly stumped. She wants to say something, thinking that Champu has finished. But her pardafash is about to get a whole lot uglier. Just as she's about to speak DM asks Champu...

'What were you saying about Santu in the store room? About her clothes?'

Santu shakes her head at DM silently asking him not to ask anymore. Not to reveal anymore. She looks at Champu and whispers an almost inaudible 'nahi'. But Champu decides that her malkin is too good to seek justice for herself. But she can't be that good, that forgiving.

'Malik that day benba went too far'. Champu goes on to relate the incident. DM's eyes flash from anger to sadness, to disbelief and back to anger as he hears about his sister's treatment of his wife. Just as Champu is nearing the end of her account a voice cuts into her speech.

'Bas Champakali, bas. Aur choti maat karo mujhe sabki nazaron mein'. She falls to her knees and places her hands over her ears trying to block it all out. 'Don't remind me of these things. Please I beg you don't remind me'.

DM's eyes say so much at this point. Santu looks up and sees the faces of the family members looking back at her. Ba and bapuji have tears running down their faces. Kaddu looks devastated at all the revelations. Hiten's eyes brim with tears, but like his father, his face is set in anger. Maulik for once looks utterly shocked at the extent of his mother's mean-spirit.

Santu is unable to bear their looks. The shame overtakes her. Suddenly she jumps up and runs into the house. DM watches her go and turns back to Taru.

Meting out justice to Taru will take some time and thinking. Her punishment has to fit the scope of her crime. And right now neither DM nor I am in a position to decide what or when anything should be done. Thus we will leave this scene for now and go onwards to another.

Sometime later DM is sitting in his chair. Hiss head is reeling from the earlier events. His mind kept replaying all the incidences that Champu had spoken of. He felt as if his head was going to explode. The thoughts and images wouldn't stop running through his mind. But most painful for him was to know that Santu had been strip-searched. That she had been subjected to such degrading, inhuman treatment. His mind kept imagining the scene and it tore him to pieces. He looked up at the ceiling and ran his fingers through his hair, pulling them as he went. He felt, sick, he felt restless, but most of all he felt ashamed.

He had always proclaimed to be a just, fair man. A man of principles. A man who had never knowingly wronged another. A man who believed in justice and fairness. And yet, such unfair and unjust crimes were taking place under his own roof and he was unaware of it. That too by one of his own against one who had become his own. He rubbed his palms over his face and breathed deeply. His head dropped into his hands and he sat there for a few minutes looking very lost and bereft for the first time in his life.

Santu entered the room. She saw him there. She waited a few moments by the door. DM seemed to be oblivious to her presence. She saw him clench his hair and pull. She walked over to him. DM heard the chan chan of her payals but he didn't look up. He couldn't look up. How could he meet her eyes?

Santu stood by his chair.

'Malik do you have a headache?' DM said nothing. 'Shall I get you some medicine?' Still DM said nothing. Santu kneeled down and asked if he would like her to massage his head. Only then did DM look up to see her. His face was pale and tears brimmed in his eyes. Santu was shocked to see DM like this. She had only ever seen him cry once before at Kaddu's bidaai. She placed a hand against his cheek and asked concernedly 'malik kya hua. Aap ki swast teek nahi hai kya?' DM shook his head in frustration, but replied quietly.

'You're asking me what the matter is. Itna pyar maat kar mujhe Santu, itna pyar maat kar'. Santu looked at him but said nothing. Her palm was still against his cheek. DM took her palm in both hands and held it to his lips.

'Tu ne mujse baathaya kyun nahi? Why didn't you tell me that all these things were happening?' Santu smiled at him weakly.

'Tell who malik? The person who himself didn't accept me as his wife. Who was completely indifferent to me? You didn't speak to two words to me unless it was an order. Then how was I to tell you anything let alone something such as this'?

DM looked down at the floor. He knew he had played a part in this too. Had he not himself behaved so callously with her, then motiben would never have gone so far. His own behaviour had given her the licence to be so merciless.

DM held her hands in his.

'Sirf motiben nahi, but even what I did was wrong. I should not have done it. I married you and brought you into this house. If that was wrong at the time, then the fault lay with me. But I always behaved as if you were in the wrong'. He sighed deeply and continued. 'And I never did what I should have done a long time ago. I never asked for your forgiveness. Forgive me Santu'.

Santu shook her head. 'You have nothing to seek forgiveness for'. It was DM's turn to shake his head and refute her claim. They both knew very well that an apology was long overdue.

'Yes, it hurt when you accused me, or shouted at me, or completely disregarded me. But every time you said one kind or offered a kind gesture I forgot all those other things. And since you have accepted me as your wife, I've never felt anything other than love for you. If my heart ever felt aggrieved by you malik, then it forgave you of its own accord a long time ago.

DM looked at his wife and spoke 'Motiben jo teri saath kya, wo bahut ghalat hai. My own have have caused me to fall in my own eyes. She will get her punishment, but I'm also asking you for forgiveness on her behalf'. Santu shook her head as if to say that he need not do this. But DM continued.

'You suffered a lot in this house. At the hands of everyone at some point or another. But perhaps mostly at mine and motibens. She subjected you to such abuse and degradation that I don't know if I'll ever be able to forgive her. Or myself come to that'.

Santu freed her hand and placed it upon his lips to silence him. 'Bas, aur nahi'. She wiped his tears and cupped his face in her hands. 'Bas' she repeated softly and getting up, placed a gently kiss on his forehead. DM looked into her eyes and wondered ke kis mitti se bani huyi hai his wife. Santu returned his gaze, and DM wrapped his arms around her waist and leaned his head against her. Santu placed an arm around his neck and stroked his head tenderly.

Rakhie I liked the fashion show scene but this is the number one scene that i would love to watch on tv. I would love to see a scene of Champakali like this and revealing Taru's evilness and what she did to Santu. Loved this emotional scene, it was heart wrenching, warming, had everything👏👏👏 Too good, when I saw the scene of Taru stripped Santu, i was 😲😭😡 and wanted to go and kill her, that very low thing to do to any human being. Gwad, and it just reminded me of slaverly for some reason.
I really wish CVs copy this scene, its better to be late than never. Keep up the fab work👏 I will love to see DM apologize to Santu, for what he did to her, maybe he can tell her, that both of them are equal in marriage.
