David Dhawan was very keen to work with Ranbir Kapoor like many filmmakers in B-Town but it looks it will be a long wait.

David is in talks with Studio 18 to remake Sai Paranjape's cult comedy Chashme Buddoor (1981). And he wanted the Kapoor kid to play the character Farooque Shaikh's character from the original. David felt he would match the character's sensibilities and innocence.

No remakes for me
A source says, "David made him his mind to cast Ranbir after watching Ranbir's performance in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. David then got in touch with Ranbir and met him. David told him about his remake idea and told him about the changes he would make in his version.

Ranbir who has seen the original, told the director that he'd loved the film but he didn't want to be part of this remake. He doesn't want to be part of any remakes." David was disappointed about being turned down and has now started a hunt for another actor.

A source close to Studio 18 says, "They indeed have the remaking rights of Chashme Buddoor and they have had them for a good two years now. Initially, they were planning to make it with Onir but somehow, things never worked out.

Now David is one of the directors they have signed and they are constantly bouncing off ideas with him. Chashme Buddoor was also one of the ideas told and things aren't confirmed as yet as they are looking for any other story idea that might excite them."

Currently, he is working on the remake of a Telugu hit Kick, starring Salman Khan for producer Sajid Nadiadwala. It will go on the floor in April next year.

Another BB for sallu

ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR is up for release in a week from now. Yet again, Ranbir Kapoor would be seen as a young man who is fresh out of college and trying to find a foothold in life. This means that other than WAKE UP SID and AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI, even in ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR he is continuing to play characters belonging to the same age group.

"Today, I am 26 years old and one thing that I am really sure about is that I would continue to play roles that suit my age. Yes, all the films that you mention do have me playing a young character but that's all cool. Tomorrow when I turn 40, I would play other kind of roles too", says Ranbir in a matter of fact tone.

CHECK OUT: Ranbir Kapoor looking for a breather

Now that he is knocking the doors of the top league dominated by actors who have been around for one or two decades, does he have an action plan in place? After all Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan do a movie once every one or two years, Shah Rukh Khan too has become extremely choosy about his projects, Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor have reinvented themselves with diverse roles in each of their recent films whereas Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan are still happy to be seen in multiple massy films. After SAAWARIYA, was Ranbir too having a plan chalked out that resulted in the kind of films that he is being seen today?

He nods in disagreement, "No, I haven't really planned out anything like this. Different films are coming my way and I pick and choose them based on what I like. I don't quite worry much about how they would eventually be accepted by audiences and whether they would set me in a particular image."
