Yes certain spiritual paths, practices etc are recommended and often after fumbling and learning along the way we get a better insight into things and understand the relationship between Man, God and the universe. Logical sequence has been us intitially gaining Self Satisfacton which then leads to Self Sacrifice and then Self Realisation. Pantajali's eightfold yoga path gives a broad definition but it is meant for persons who has reached a certain level understanding because it starts off by saying that we should have the quality of goodness and also contol our senses; basically to achieve concentration and meditation we need to purify our minds so that there are no distractions.
Reading of some good books is also very useful, especially the lives of saints, sages and teachers. After a while even reading of too much such books are discouraged as it may remain only book knowledge, so application of the lessons learnt in our daily lives is recommended.
As to predefined set of beliefs I would say that there are no hard and fast rules. But we should not bend the rules for our own selfish purposes of taking advantage of others.

The thing I wonder is where is God, I am a believer that if there is God then its within me, otherwise he is not there. Why do one needs to follow such practices when all one needs to do is try to be pure and in service to human beings in need, is that not sufficient. Or getting pure is so difficult that unless you go through the cleansing process, you can't be clean😕

A religion is a system of human thought which usually includes a set of narratives, symbols, beliefs and practices that give meaning to the practitioner's experiences of life through reference to a higher power, deitytruth.[1] Religion is commonly identified by the practitioner's prayer, ritual, meditation, music and art, among other things, but more generally is interwoven with society and politics. It may focus on specific supernatural, metaphysical, and moral claims about reality (the cosmos and human nature) which may yield a set of religious laws, ethics, and a particular lifestyle. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and religious experience.
or deities, or ultimate😊

Maybe you would like to start explaining things by your own words, your own language, instead of scouring the web for definitions already known. In case you did not realize, this topic was aimed at understanding each of ours own concepts, thoughts, and reflections on religion - not what some website say it is.

Even when you do copy/paste materials from other sites, make sure you provide the link, or else, it is considered as plagiarism.
