There is a difference of opinion in measures for success for a new singer and I read many views from many members now and then but I feel that some views are biased and emotional without taking practical events into account. Some members says that the particular singer is good and will surely make name when he or she gets chance but it is very hard to get chance in bollywood and when time passes people forgets todays stars if they don't get chance their places are taken by new talents and all end up doing stage shows here and there for some years.

From earlier Saregamapa Dilshaad, Debojit,Vineet, Mussarat,Harpreet etc. and from Lil Champs Abrokanti,Sameer, Pawni,Diwakar are good singers but they never got opportunities to sing for bollywood except for Vineet who sang a song or two for Himesh. Finally all these singers will end up doing shows here and there.

I feel success of an upcoming singer can be measured by taking the following points into account:

1) Singing songs in bollywood which keeps them in limelight.

2) Appearing in reality shows and TV and making a mark in them.

3) Getting too many shows from all across the country and world.

4) Maintaining their singing capabilities and improving them.

My views:

Singing songs in bollywood is the best measure of success and this gives the singer the due recognition and Music Directors now a days doesn't take risk with new singers and if a new singer is given chance then he or she must have some extra ordinary abilities.

It is necessary for a newcomer to always remain in public mind and if he or she appears in reality show or on TV and does well public don't forget his or her face.

Getting offer for shows signifies that public wants to hear them and public likes them and moreover a singers main earning source is shows.

If a singer improves it will of great help to his career.

Please post your opinions.

Your opinions maybe true but how about Mohit Chauhan, I never heard him sing anywhere before and he was given a chance and his song masakhali become very popular. There are others like suzzane or something never heard but they are giving playback singing.
Maybe luck factor also count eg Just like Atif Aslam.

The gold standard for success of an upcoming singer is Shreya Goshal. You got to have super talent, and lady luck. How many upcoming singers can reach her level among the current crop of singers? I would categorize her as super success. She is like Tendulkar of Bollywood. Gets some award each year.
The next level is singer getting the maximum shows. The singers with super fan following. There are many in this category like Raja, Debojit, Vinit... People come and listen to them.
Third level is getting work in regional films. You are a regional hero.
Fourth level is you can sing in Jagratas, local programs, mohalla get togethers and so on...
Last one is start your own career and sing in your bathroom.

Regarding Shreya...totally agree!!! But personally I am not much happy with people doing shows only.
A singer should be judged by the amount of creativity that a person has. This may be in terms of film songs or in terms of Albums.

Hold up a crystal glass in front of their mouth when they sing and measure the effects of their voice.

I think measuring monetary and fame success and actual growth as a singer are two different things. I'd say there are a lot of really exceptional singers who are not in the 'popular' circuit and do not sell millions. However, they are greatly successful in what they do and the uniqueness they bring to the world of music.

Most singers these days are measured in terms of commercial success or Fat Bank Accounts. 😆
Personally I would measure it in terms of personal satisfaction.
Others will measure it in terms of the satisfaction they receive by listening to the singer.
My list singers I like includes:
